Key Fob Battery Change Question

Dear All

Just a question on changing batteries on an L322 RR (4.4 petrol) key fob.

I have the batteries and know how to open the fob to change them - but is there a procedure/reset needed for when I've done this?

Don't want to change and find it doesn't lock (or worse)!

If they are OEM there should be a short section in the handbook telling you how to re-synch the fob to the transponder - its usually holding down the lock button or pressing the lock button several times whilst close to the transponder (it was on my LSE and Defender, both with OEM fobs) or something like that but its nearly always in the handbook

Thanks, they are original keys - just couldn't put my hands on the manual! Will have another hunt around :)

I've never had to resync mine when just changing the batteries unless the batteries were particularly flat (I left one fob for 6 months as it kept 'eating' batteries).

The one time I did have to resync, I had to open the door with key in lock as the remote wasn't woring, but then I just started the rangie and all worked like magic.
 
My thought would be that the key can only transmit, and not receive, so when away from the car it wouldn't matter if you changed the batteries because it would still send out the same signal when it powered up again. Don't quote me on that though, it's just a theory.

The FOB uses "rolling code" technology for security, it is possible to scramble the code when changing the batteries leading to the need for a re-sync:)
