Just out of interest Ive also got an old p reg ford escort 1.6 petrol that the wife bobs about in.Did a brim to brim on that all short trips round town 27.5 mpg. Would have thought it would be better than that but she does only work two miles down the road.

What I cant understand is Biglad claims 40ish mpg on a run auto 300tdi .Revjames 28mpg on a run manual 300tdi.Why such a big difference?

Just sold my 300tdi recently which i measured economy by filling to the brim at home driving to dover onto ferry off ferry in Calai drive to Belgium filling up to brim @50p per liter cost 16 quid if i remember right it was 328 miles give or take an inch. My new replacement td5 facelift would cost me a mortgage but ive now solved the problem with the td5, bought a fiesta diesel for wife to learn to drive in so i leave td5 in my garage and i use the fiesta which she fuels 45 round town to the gallon

Hi rollin danny, if you are going to quote me, at least the decent thing and quote me accurately.

I think you'll find that I said that the wifes Tdi 200 gives 35+mpg day in, day out and on a run 40+mpg.

To be precise, we did an 800kms trip recently to collect a 9 mtre caravan. On the way there ie 400kms (250mls) the mpg was 46, we were running very gently on small roads so maybe 50mph. On the return, towing the caravan, on bigger roads but still about 45-50mph, 26mpg.

It's not fiction, I'm not claiming it, I'm stating it.:cool:

Meet you in playground at break.No hitin int face!

Yeah yeah, ok sorry, maybe I was a bit strong. But when you know something for sure and time after time, just because other people aren't getting the same mpg, they say you can't be either - well, its just a bit frustrating.

You know what I'm saying?:eek:

Ps I suppose a kick in the bollocks is out of the question then?

Sorry if I got my facts bit wrong, but you do get better m.p.g than most of us.How high does your engine rev when doing 60.Mine is just over 2000 rpm.Someone posted other day 1800 rpm at 60 think it was manual though.Suppose being on icline and wind resistance will make a difference.Fights off then? I knew you were chicken !.

Hi danny, you do know that you should never called someone chicken, right?

I'm working on the assumption that you're just young, stupid and don't know much about people so we'll let it pass.;) :cool:

To be honest when I saw the post you are referring to about revs for a given speed, I was surprised myself - they sounded a bit low to me, for the mph.

I don't know the figures for out two, but I'm pretty sure that both of them would be doing more than 2000rpm at 60mph.

Next time I'm out I'll make a note of the revs and post it on here.

Cheers for now and happy Easter.

Dave

just come back on the motorway - flat, no head or tail wind 60mph at a c**k hair under 2000rpm
'98 disco, no mods just a clean air filter..don't ask about the mpg i have stopped calculating as it scares me!!!

Sorry Daza, didn't mean to scratch a sore point. Just enjoy the ride.

Hi Guys,

Just done a run down to Exmouth over this weekend, from Wolverhampton, fully loaded with wife and 2 kids (Also boot stacked to the roof with bags and food and bedding for the static caravan holiday)

Covered 560miles (Including a few days out to Sidmouth and Dartmouth)

Brimmed the tank before I left and just filled the old girl back up again, wil my calculations

520miles / 73.25ltrs used (16.12gallons) = 7.10mp/ltr (32.27mpg)
(used a conversion of 4.545 ltrs per gallon)

I thought that was quitr good and I was keeping it around 60-70mph most of the time on the motorway.

I have a Pipercross on mine, fan off, kenlow fitted, and blanked off the EGR.

To be honest it's a saving on not having to replace the air filter when it's manky but not much in terms of performance. The egr made little or no difference either, so I guess quotes that massive improvements can be had have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I only get about 30mpg on mine it's a 300tdi and manual with only 95k, I'm surprized that some get 35k and above, perhaps if one sits on a long journey at a respectable speed then it's possible, but normally that's not what you do is it.

Don't think you should sell your disco, join a club and get into some mad mud and enjoy it you miserable bastid, life is for living, yer a long time dead, as you know.

Can't ye get yer mate to get it to run on water if you ask nice, I mean the fooker moved a whole sea so he did, so it's a small request.

If our engines (300 tdi) rev at different speeds in top gear at sixty then surely it will account for variations in fuel economy.

You talkin to me.........punk?

Sorry thought we were doing it in top gear.

Ok guys, did some tests today with my wife's Tdi 200 manual, '93, tyres 235/70/60. We were discussing revs for a given speed "so here are the results from the French Jury":

60mph = 2500rpm in 5th gear

2000rpm = 48mph in 5th gear

50mph = 2600rpm in 4th gear
2050rpm in 5th gear

Everything else on the car is standard - how does that compare with you guys?

I will post the figures for a Tdi 300 auto tommorrow night
