Currently in Cornwall. Went for a drive with a mate yesterday. Be rude not to take a photo or two.

Haha no all was good but I was watching the tide when we where on the beach though. Photos don’t really do it justice as it was very wild and dramatic.

Latest mod coming along. Fridge slider/drawer/storage unit. Still. Weds a few things to finish it. Fridge slider next to go on top plus might carpet it to give it a nicer finish. Also need to sort a way of securing it down as well. Happy with it so far and a massive thanks to my dad for building it for me Need to put some feet on it as well as it just catches the tailgate

Hi mate

can u use longer runners that are in 3 x sections so the cool box comes out further

or can u put the cool box on the RH side and ur metal shelf back in so it goes over the drawer and cool box

It would have to come out a very long way as it’s the upper tailgate that restricts the lid opening fully. Will probably make a base for the fridge slide so I can have the drawer and slide side by side. Shame really as it works great. It’s not fully extended in the photo as I hadn’t secured it down so will extend a bit more.

That’s a super nice disco 4!! Can I ask how much you bought it for / how much the upgrades have been approx? Thinking of upgrading from a disco2 in the next year or two.

hiya

bet ur it’s well over £40k for the D4 and mods

front lights on the grill and roof rack must be nearly a grand

Have a D3 myself and surprising how quickly things add up, lol

Yes costs can quickly get out of hand when buying/modifying a LR. I’m a bit reluctant to divulge the costs as I don’t want to know myself .

Anyway here goes, most are from memory so there will be a +/- of a couple of quid.

D4 £31.5k
Prospeed roof rack, rear ladder, compressor guard, rock/tree sliders with step inserts, sump plate all bought as a package new from Prospeed £3.7k
Lights in grill, 2 x Lazer Triple R-750’s £600
Roof light 1 x Lazer Linear Elite 18 £500
Tinted windows £160
Duratrac tyres 4 fitted £440
Altox fuel burning heater controller £220
Redarc BCDC1240D split charge controller (still not fitted yet though) £350
Rear work light Lightforce ROK20 £80

I’d probably add another £200 for associated sundries.

Things still on the list is a side awning. I’ve just acquired a set of Prospeed awning brackets that retail for £90. Not decided on which awning to go for yet but leaning towards a Rhino Rack Batwing. Think these retail for £660.

Yes I’ve spent a lot but it’s taken 2 years to get it to the point it is now. Plus I’ve sold lots of stuff I don’t use to fund most of it. I was determined to fit the best of the best (in my opinion) and think it’s looking good.

I did most of this to my old D3 but that was on a very tight budget.

Lots more planned for this year as we are planning on driving to Austria next year for a few weeks so will be looking at roof rack storage, another spare wheel and whether I need to think about having the ability to carry extra fuel.

So there you go. Not the cheapest of setups but I kept my D3 for ten years and see no reason I won’t be keeping this one for a similar amount of time.

Thanks for the nice comments and I’ll update as and when I bolt something else on

hi mate

I did try and keep the figure low for ur sanity , lol

I’ve always thought it’s more of an investment because of what the return to us for days out etc etc

am planning later on to fit a side awning , one that just pulls out so on sunny days can pull that out to keep the sun off Candy my lab when on days out , alas only got the short rails which still need to go on, which will be so solar as well with a couple of panels

you’ve done some excellent mods there and I’ve done the same in selling bits off that I no longer used to keep my D3 in good condition inc mods

look forward to piccies on ur trip to Austria plse , sounds an awesome time

Cheers pal. I’ve been pushing for this trip for years and now we are going. The resort we are going to we’ve been a couple of times before once on a summer walking holiday and once on a winter skiing holiday so we know what it’s like. It’s called Obergurgl in the Austrian alps. Stunning part of the world. It’s 985 miles door to door. Really can’t wait and we’ve already started planning

awesome and also good that u don’t have to worry about the terrain too much in the D4 , don’t think pictures can always justify the sheer beauty of the parts of the world that we visit and indeed heard that Austria is supposed to be stunning , bet u can’t wait

always dreamed of driving down to the tip of spain , maybe one day

Hi @Andy Foster

may I quickly pick ur brains plse , is it better to fit the extended roof rails for side awnings , only have the short ones and haven’t fitted them yet so haven’t cut the covers

many thks :D

If your fitting the cross bars, basically the roof rack then with the extended rails you could in theory fit extra cross bars. This would allow you to to have more fixing points for the awning reducing any flex/sag at the front of the awning. Hope that makes sense.
