just bought this.defender ..??

hi all, I am new to landyzone and just after buying my first defender.

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 300 Tdi Overland | eBay and it is old and has a few problems :lol:

ie the gear box making a noise in first but driving ok in other gears, Want to upgrade to r 380 as it has the gearbox form before it was converted to 300 tdi from v8, Well i was on to the guy at ashcroft transmissions and for reconditioned r 380 gearbox with upgraded bearings £995+transfer box £495 +ex vat fitted £2426 inc vat

Just wondering if i could find a person or people who recondition gearboxs and buy for a better price, also want to install 2nd and 3rd row seat from discovery or sabb or senic maganne and want to buy new grill front bumper ,would be great if there were a one stop shop near london as i am collect next week and heading off to Portugal 4 days later..Bit of a crazy post for first post :lol:
any help would be much appreciated

looking good - but it aint no fender. thats a oneten.

how much noise ? land rovers make more noise than euroboxes - some people mistake this as something wrong when it can be perfectly normal

not sure i am trying to find the exact details as i have not driven it yet as i am in portugal so i have emailed the seller to give me a description...from our phone call he said it was a problem with a noise in first and would recommend upgrading it. When driving out of first not a problemhe said..I like the idea of a new cluch and reconditioned gear box but the cost seems high but i dont know

. Ya my mercedes camper is alway funny getting into first and has being like that for 3 years so mybe it is a normal fault.. that can be lived with..

Although it says 110 on the front, it is a Defender. Unless there is something odd going on...

Its on a d plate tetsu. Its had a 300tdi heart transplant , it started life as a 1987 v8 oneten predating defenders by 3 years (pst for all intents and purposes its the same thing im just being picky cause i drive a ninety and people always call it a defender ..... Bit like calling landys jeeps ....)

90/110 werebuilt for seven years before Defenders came in, many differences, mainly the 200Tdi engine was introduced on Defender.

I hate in when people call my 90 a Defender too! There are some morons who even call any landy back to series one a Defender

With the exception of the engines, I think the 90/110 are actually a better vehicle in some ways than Defender. And real landies never had model names, only wheelbases!

Strictly speaking you should call it a Ninety rather than a 90..

I see that, but it has push button doors, the air intake is not on the passenger side (could be a V8 thing, like you said), plastic expansion tank, fuel filter at the front of the engine bay, the 300Tdi looks like it's a Defender one and I will bet that the gearbox has reverse below 5th. Also the advert says it's a 1996 reg date, even though the date also says 1987?

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice looking thing but I doubt very much that is a transplanted D reg.

Push button doors were around in 87.

I have them- they are original and rotten. I have every reciept back to the purchase reciept for mine and im the second owner...no new doors were ever fitted

If it still has the original gear box from before the 300 was fitted itll have a nice hardy lt85 v8 box - good clunky positive shifts they have an all unlike my lt77 which is like a porridge box.

Disco/fender 300s were the same no ? - not like the 200s with their differin turbo positions.

Yep, but the airbox was different with the mounting bracket on the engine. Not unheard of for that to be transplanted as well, but rare. Usually Disco engines are used and the airbox is fabricated up somehow.

If it is indeed an 87 then with the bits in the pics it is the most comprehensive transplant I have ever seen. Just doesn't quite look right to me.

But it is still nice, regardless.

i must admit - ive saved the photograph of the engine bay as a 300 tdi heart is a transplant im looking at for mine and that is a bloody tidy install.

I made insulation for a camper van from sleeping mats used for camping was thinking of making these for sound proofing but think i might meed something better for noise deadening i see on the net that can use 6mm neoprene membrane Any ideas ??
