Just Bought My First Landy....

Well, just bought my first Landy... named Lando... and it's a 1994 Defender 110 300 Tdi. I already replaced the front prop shaft (because the U-Joint blew out in France), and changed the GearBox fluid. I am going to change the oil next and clean the engine compartment. I was wondering what was the 1st ten or so projects or fixes or replaces everyone does on their Defenders once they get them? Thanks

Check/change oils
grease props UJ
Swivel joints (cv grease)
Check axle breathers are clear
Have a good look round the motor looking for any leaks.
Enjoy the little jobs on the landy

Give it a full service as that way you KNOW it has been done plus you gain intimate knowledge of your new (to you) vehicle, doing it DIY isn't even expensive but the piece of mind is worth loads. Also if you go over it as if you are preparing for an MOT (checking wheel bearings, suspension bushes etc) then nothing should come to bite you in the future.
Replacing the cambelt (inc aux belt) is also a worthwhile task, sees you through the next 5-years plus while you are doing it you are also draining (and flushing through) the coolant. Likewise bleeding the brakes and making sure the fluid is fresh.

Check and renew anything doubtful with the cooling system, nothing "does" for a 300 more than coolant loss.

On my defender 300 tdi i keep a close eye on coolant level, and regularly have to top it up.
I tend to treat my defender as a machine that needs regular maintenance, I wouldn't dare just give it a yearly service.

Congrants. As everyone has said. Do a full service, as per the Haynes manual 24 monthly service, change the belts. Oil, lube and grease every nipple(lol), joint and anything else you fancy greasing. Check all rubbers, change as required. Drive through a car wash and look for water ingress, and using the Land Rover water ingress manual, which you can find online, sort any leaks before they get worse. Get your wheels balanced and tracked.
