Well... after a busy week of selling a car that wasn't for sale, missing out on a 2001 vogue and some comedy events ending up with me buying said 2001 Vogue this evening. Turns out the guy bought it from a place just over a mile from where I live!

Anyway... here she is!

Thanks fellas, its turning out to be a bit more of a pest than I was anticipating but hey ho that's P38 (range rover?) ownership. Unraveling PO's bodging is half the battle then fixing it properly is the rest of the job.

My list is reasonably static, (I sort one problem out then another crops up to replace it)!

Just wish mine was a fifth as nice as yours - if only to justify all of my effort!

Thanks mate! It is a nice (looking) example but as I said some hidden issues have come to light, however... the ABS issue thats cropped up appears to be a sensor so will replace that early next week and see where it lands. I will be annoyed if someone has bodged stuff for a simple job but as I have now found out its last proper owners were a haulage firm, anything is possible!

It's not your old one is it Mozz?

But she looks so very nice so you can forgive her a few misdemeanours!

I very much doubt whether your vehicles past history is anything like mine.

I had to thoroughly jet wash all of the interior and I actually hosed down the inside too, (once I had stripped out all of the upholstery and trim and all electronics), as there was as much mud and filth on the inside as there was underneath!

The inside was unbearable to sit in as the stench was like a pig farm and there was a mouse nest, (with the occupants still in situ), under the HIVAC console, (lots of cables chewed up)!

I also found a puncture hole on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel.

I bought it, (very cheaply), with my eyes wide open, (just to gain some experience of the usual P38 problems), and for a bit of a change from my usual pastime of restoring classic Japanese motorcycles.

She is now very clean, inside, no odour and I hope to get it out on the road at the start of February!

Still have plenty to sort, on my list, but I am getting there.

If all goes to plan I may be looking for a Vogue, at sometime in the near future, and I won't mind taking a bit of a gamble now that I know what I am up against.

Keep us all posted on your progress.

Hell that's been a fair project then. I wouldn't mind to much but for a P38 it was relatively strong money, infact it was more than double what I paid for my first one that I bought 3 years ago which had less mileage. I admit that one had barely a straight panel on it (and had none after I'd gone through stile end in it!) and was a bit of an unusual colour. It also gave me most of the usual problems, I'm just a bit annoyed that I jumped at this without really being as careful as I should have been. Have said that the first one came from 250 miles away, unseen and bought via ebay and I even paid a guy to delivery to me. How brave was I!?!

I'm hoping to get an hour or two on it tomorrow to try and deal with some missing vacuum hose and I'm going to have a go at the CD changer to see if the spare I have will work.

I had one piece of luck!

I do not have the EKA or Radio code and the CD Auto Changer was sitting in a pool of mud!

I cleaned and serviced the Radio Head assembly and thoroughly serviced the CD Auto Changer, (fortunately the pcb's were not damaged), ready for when I could get the code from a main dealer.

But, when stripping the interior I found an official looking foil label, (with a four digit number), and I now have a fully functional radio/cd.

Just a pity aout the rest of the car!

I have bought a few motorcycles 'blind' as the price was right at the time.

I once rode a Yamaha YZR1000 200 miles back from South Wales, (mid winter in pouring rain), with just a weak rear brake and no speedo.

Perhaps I should have past on that one - but I had soon transformed it back to it's former glory.

When you say Vogue..... Are you refering to an L322 or a P38?

Saint, more likely the P38 as I have no exerience of the L322, (but only imited P38 knowledge - mostly thanks to this forum and primarily Wammers and yourself), and this the primary reason why I 'invested' in my little wreck of a project!

I guess, (but I know that you will correct me if I am incorrect in my assumption), that LR sorted the earlier P38 engine issues when they built the L322, (such as the curse of the 'slipping liners'), but they then added a raft of new 'character enhancing' L322 issues just to keep their owners busy!

I have yet to research the L322 in detail but also suspect some of the components are similar to those of the P38 whilst others are a completely new design?

I like the look of the L322 but I also like the look of the P38 - although either will suit me if it doesn't smell/look like a pig farm!

The learning curve will continure, later, as I may try to refit the door cards, (if I can get the plastic pegs out), or I may try and replace the upper tailgate, (single handed - that will be a challenge - unless I put my truck on its side), and I still have to repair one of the door amps and the HIVAC.

Pleased with the clean up of my fuse box though.

I am planning to write up my 'experiences', (with pictures), at some point in the near future.

Hoping to tax/insure next week so that I can then see what other horrors await me!

Buy 5/6 spare key fob battery packs as they go every 3 months . Leave the drivers door open when changing them then stick the key back in the ignition, otherwise your engine will immobilise! If that happens you will need a black box solution to get it going again.

Really that short? To be honest when I had my last one for 18 months I didn't ever change a battery on the fob. If I'm honest I had to resync the key but just did it through unlocking it with the key, key in ignition, ignition of shut the door and try locking it with the button. Worked a treat!
