A Galaxy far far away.......
In the engine bay.

Well now I have a horrible squeel, any ideas which of the pullys on the AUX belt this is likley to be?

I`m thinking one of the smaller tensioner/routing pullys, I really hope its not the others, Alternator, power steering, and what ever else is on there.

I surpose its taking what I can off greasing the bearings up and putting it back again.

What a ball sack ache.

I now understand why people say burn the fat hippo pile of crap.

PS. Forgot to mention I also sprayed said engine bay with GUNK degreaser, so there is a very good chance I have a dry bearing (sounds painfull I know)

Your a brave man, jet washing in the engine bay:confused:.

You've probably just washed some grease off, buy a tin of 3in1 white lithium spray grease and get spraying. Put some eye protectors on though as it seems to spray everywhere apart from where you point it!

Have fun :)

Might be the Ac pulley bearing if you have it. Does it sound any different with Ac on or off?

Already been down that path, still squeels, I`ll see what its like tommorrow, hopefully it should have sorted its self out.

Took it for a run too, sqeels like a destressed rabbit.:flame:

Lets hope tomorrow brings less noise.

Funny you should mention that Chaser, while i was down there, looking for the squeel, I noticed that the AC compressor is not kicking in either, yet another job to do.

The light comes on in the AC switch but the clutch is not engaging, any idea`s.

My air con pump has never been the same since it was immersed in Salisbury Plain liquid cement. :( it still seems to work tho, so no point in depressurizing system, fixing it and repressurising - tiz expensive :(

I don`t use the aircon anyway, if its hot I open the windows.

I just like evey thing to be working just incase. But I don`t like spending money:amen:

If you dont use it then yes....it probably needs reagassing:rolleyes:

I only bought the Hippo around 2 weeks ago, so not sure whats what. I`m slowly going through every thing.

Any other way to test if its just gas I need? is there a ball valve anywhere i can press to see if I get a Pssssssssssssssssssst!

There's an electrical connection on the pump, check if you get voltage there when the switch is on and check the earth connection on the pump. If not then it's possible it's cut out due to low pressure. If you do get a voltage then it's possible that the clutch coil is knackered.
You can also momentarily apply 12v to see if the clutch engages. Don't allow it to run without gas though.

Thanks will do that tomorrow, will check for 12v, if its not there I will introduce it myself, just for a sec or 2 to see if the clutch kicks in.

How does that wire come out?

Assuming they are all the same. it's a black cylindrical plastic plug only 1 wire, socket half is screwed to the pump body so the bit with the wire pulls out.

The td4 air con compressor has the same bearing as the v6, but the v6 pulley is wider with an extra grove due to a wider belt. If it is this bearing, give me a shout and I'll dig out the bearing number. You can change the air con clutch bearing yourself, without removing the compressor from your Freelander.
