Jet Boils...

MSR whisperlite burns petrol, kerosene, jet fuel, white Gas (whatever the fook that is)

and cheaper than a jetboil is, by the time ya've bought all the bits yu need to make it boil water in less time than it take to die of thirst..

Ive got an eta. Super quick and therefore hardly use any gas. Suitable for one. As mentioned above not great for a fry up between mates. If its all boil in the bag or just add water then spot on

There is nothing out there at the moment pound for pound that is better than a jet boil.

No ifs no buts its a fact.

Jetboils are small, compact and easy to use, there is no messing around setting up stands and wind breaks and putting pipes from bottle to burner.

Those who say kelly kettles etc are faster are factually incorrect. Kelly kettles come into there own with there versatility. Anything that will make a fire, you can shove into the kelly and burn.

Yes you wouldnt want to cook a full meal on it but Jetboils are great.

Bear in mind that the jet boil with the conversion kit and an ordinary pan is the same as using any old gas stove as you do not have the benefit of the flux ring/heat exchanger which is what makes the jetboil/primus eta so efficient. The primus stove already incorporates the flux ring with a pan whereas to get a jetboil one is another £50+ just worth considering.
Yes... but for when I just want a tea it will take a few minutes to boil. Cooking will be occasional on it, probably use a proper stove most of the time though

where will you find the gas cylinders in the middle of the desert? Do they grow on trees too?;):D:D:D

Nah... if there where trees i could use a Kellykettle ;)

They grow on cacti.

Got one... they're good, great for hiking, but, take a while to boil water for tea.

.

Cheers Matt, you got one I assume then?

No, thats just it, it is a JetBoil but with a different pan that gives more flexibility. Boiling time is quoted as faster than a jetboil. Remember that the JetBoils are based on the old primus design and were originally made by primus before manufacturing swapped to china.

But if its only for boiling water go with the jetboil that is what its designed for :D

If its for cooking etc in the middle of nowhere, what about a Trangia :confused: reason being, there is absolutely nothing that can go wrong with it, mine has been abused, dents hammered out of it etc etc. A fishing mate of mine went through probably half a dozen all singing, all dancing petrol and gas stoves, something went wrong with every one:eek::eek: He uses a Trangia now:rolleyes:.
If you use methanol blend in it as well, it gets a bit hotter so cooks quicker, and doesn't turn your pans black;););)
Do like my Ghillie kettle as well though, when size/weight isn't an issue, it just makes brewing up a bit of an event and the kids love it:D

Far too heavy

Hmm, thanks, some mixed results then.

I think the Kelly kettles, etc are great, but, when weight isn't an issue and access to gas cylinders, etc. isn't a problem, then, I think there are better options, I'm also not sure how much stuff i'll find to burn in the middle of a desert...!

The Jet boil with conversion to allow you to cook anything on it sounds like a potentially good option...

Hmm... I see... I need to find some camping shop which has all of these in and will let me actually use them... If it does boil quickly and easy to set up then that's not a bad option... although i was planning on taking a proper 2 ring calor gas burner for main cooking.

Trangias are great, used one when I toured Iceland, as well as on the numerous expeditions out as Scouts and on DoE... but, they are not exactly quick to boil water, Just want a quick way to make a brew which has other options for if I don't have a full camping stove with me.

:confused::confused: I assumed the "Going to Morocco" involved a Landy :confused:

I was also thinking more of the reliability factor, Trangia and Ghillie kettle, there is NOTHING to go wrong;);););)

And yes, Morocco is via Land Rover... 2 people in a D3 commercial with roof tent on top, so, space in the back really isn't an issue. I would take the spare oven sat in my dinning room if i had anyway of powering it!!! :D

Three or four times heavier than a primus eta. All adds up eventually but they are bullet proof

I've got the cheapest/smallest jet boil and its great. Even for cooking. It came with a pan fitting. And it fits inside (with no lid) my mess tin so I cook in that. It goes everywhere with me. Only thing I'd change is its not self igniting like the next model up.
