It's time to say goodbye to my P38 :-(

After much soul-searching, I've decided it's time to part company with my beloved P38.... :-(

Shame really, as I love the damn thing... it's one of the best and most enjoyable vehicles I've ever owned.... but... now that my eldest has started 'big school', I cover a minimum of 60 miles per day just doing the round-trip school run, and I can no longer justify the expense of keeping two big Solihull stable-mates on the driveway... and If I want to do any serious off-roading (which I do, like pay 'n play, etc)... it has to be the Disco that I keep :-(

Hence I'm looking to replace it with a small fuel-efficient car... something that does at least 50mpg. Not that my P38 is actually that bad on fuel, relatively speaking... my journey is mostly A- and B-roads with very little stop-start driving, and she manages a long term average of 29.7mpg (as reported on the dash... the manually calculated tank-to-tank is actually not far behind that at 28mpg)... but it all adds up.

So... she's for sale. And I'm going to let her go 'as is' for the bargain price of £2k. Anybody who's followed my trials and tribulations with her on here will be well aware of the work I've put in and money I've spent putting her right, so there's good documented history for any potential buyer to search through... plus, she had a full dealer / indy service history up to 97k before that...

I'll be putting up an ad in the 'For Sale' section soon enough... but in the meantime, if anybody is interested, let me know and I'll give you full details - work I've already done, and current faults that need seeing to...
 
Have to say I popped the head gasket on mine a few months ago and parked her up was thinking of scrapping and all sorts - so borrowed my sons golf deisel sure enough 55 to the gallon and I was seduced for a couple of months but now have stripped the engine and decided to restore her as have decided that I would rather pay an extra few quid on fuel to have her back hope you dont suffer like me:D
 
Yep bet you will but I was the same and as I said for a few months dead happy looking at 55 mpg on the dash but then well novilty wore off and funds improved anyway wish you well and no doubt you will be back with another little project;)
 
For an economical diesel, i use a Seat Ibiza TDi FR for the daily commute/school run, not that common but 55-60 mpg with a 1.9 TD engine and goes like the proverbial if you want it to. Plus because it isn't a "Cupra" insurance is very reasonable.

Much cheaper than VW/Audi and seem to be very reasonable in the classifieds now.

Worth pointing out it is the same engine as in the equivalent VW and Audi once you take the cover off.
 
Really worth changing just for the fuel economy ? Now where's the fun in that ? Lol
Might as well become a member of the Prius club then

With the mileage I do... yes. I'd buy a Prius if I could afford one... I've owned one before and loved it (bet alot of you thought you'd never hear ME say that!!) Then again, if I could afford a Prius, I wouldn't have to chop the P38 in to save money, would I?

I'll still have the Disco to make me feel like a man every now and then... :D

Top of the list for replacements at present is a diesel A-class Merc... but my 'top contender' changes every day... so far I've been through Matiz, diesel 206, 1.0 3 cyl Corsa and Golf TDi as my 'preferred' new ride... stipulations are Cheap insurance, and at least 50mpg (or near as damn it)... and under 2 grand...

boy racer me thinks :p lol

the golf is a good motor though, maybe the 2.0L diesel :D

Although I WILL say that, at the time I had the Prius, I also had a 7.3L Ford F-350 V8 Diesel... once thought about putting the Prius on the bed of the truck (it would have fitted, and was well within the weight limits) and driving it around the streets of Vegas, just to p**s the whale-kissers off... :D :D

So, sorry to disappoint James, but....no. :)

Well as said I have been driving sons t reg 1.9 tdi bought it for him last year for 1400 quid with 120k on it changed all the bushes and did the cambelt and brakes and she drives well and if I drive sensible 63 mpg at 80 am getting 58 nuts really so might be worth considering and at least it feels quite good and sort of temporary rather than my real car you could do worse and insurance was 20 quid less than rangie
 
Another Prius has just gone wild over here, 40 miles flat out on the motorway unable to stop it. Eventually pushed into the crash barriers by the Gendarmes. Several similar incidents in the US. Not a car I would consider at any cost.

First I've heard they have problems ?

There's sh!t loads of them over here lol
 
Citroën C4 2.0 HDi VTR plus (lots of kit), roomy, nice to drive, 50+mpg around town, 60+mpg on a run - pretty quick (great midrange) you get a minter for under £3.5K
