Is this a good or bad idea.....?

My 2002 TD5 Chassis is pretty good - just had the extreme Dinitrol Treatment a couple of months ago. Since many of the problems with corrosion seem to stem from there being lots of holes, but not all in good places for drainage - is there a good reason not to fill the whole thing with expanding foam? There's a bit of loom in there, and later welding might be an issue, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has done this and whether it's a good idea. Cheers, J

Water would trap in between the foam and the steel. With it being hollow it would have a chance of drying out.

Will expanding foam not just cause more of a water / moisture trap??
I just flush mine out with a hose whenever I go off the beaten track.

my thought was to weld all the holes and melt a load of alimunium and fill chassis with allymunium so it would be stronger and rust would still would be on inside but once it rusts through it would be alimunium

Bad idea. Capillary action will rot the chassis. And the foam will cause fires when you try and weld it.

Although you can get water proof foam don't do it!! The foam will very quickly deteriorate with the movement and weather - then if welding needed - look out! And as stated the moisture will be trapped !

Many moons ago some leyland cars had bits of foam placed at the bottom of the B pillar internally I think to stop noise, sadly being foam once wet it never dried and you can guess what happened then!

All good responses thanks - I did see a post once where the guy closed all the holes and in the last one injected a few litres of old engine oil - that seems quite practical.

You could do that, but then why not inject a few litres of a known chassis protection paint / covering.

I did that, except I used Dinitrol. Works well.

It would do wonders for the lean angle.....

Not so good for fuel consumption and braking.
