engine - 1 - replace with yank block for that rumble! lose 1

gearbox - 2 - mod to fit yank box with adaptor so keep points

Just to make it clear, I'm not wanting an American V8 Defender hybrid, the pictures were just inspiration for a British equivilant to an American theme.

So I have my heart set on a TD5 (I love the noise of a straight through pipe and turbo whistle) but a 300 will probably be cheaper and easier to source.

If the chassis is a brand new item that is identical to the old one, then that is ok, you also need several original, or like for like replacements of components from the original vehicle. The major components are assigned a points value, and you need 8 points in order to keep the vehicles original ID. The points are as follows, and they must be original or like for like replacements;

Chassis - 5 points
Suspension - 2 points
Axles - 2 points
Transmission - 2 points
Steering - 2 points
Engine - 1 point

But remember, this is assuming you are using the unmodified original or brand new chassis. If you modify the chassis in any way, then it is irrelevant how many other original components you use, you will need a Q plate.

So does that mean martin that Doc's is on SNW plate?????

300 with a 8" long 3" body cherry bomb on a straight pipe will whistle big time!

Just chop it off about 70cm from the base of the downpipe then add it in there with a finisher and behold the noise!

Would mean that most peoples series landrovers are……….

V8 jons is running extended chassis shock mounts so his should be ####ed if martins right………..anyone with a non landrover crossmember i.e. homemade etc etc but then again we could all just say they were done before 31st December 1997.

All Defender parts :)

Would love some series doors and possibly some respectable recaro seats if I can afford them but not any of those primary coloured mock ups out of Halfords.

If your worried about cost of doors and seats I think you are barking up the wrong tree. This will be a bigger money pit than you can imagine :D
Why not just use landy panels and build it on some other sort of chassis, you ain't going off road with it....
There's a defender that drag races  in the uk, try looking that up.

Unfotunately VOSA have got wise to people using the build date as an excuse, so the situation now is that if there is any doubt as to the legality of the vehicle, the onus is on the owner to provide documented evidence of the build date.

fairly easy to make a private bill of sale for the parts etc though

mines legal anyway by the points system, no ones going to bother about the chassis if its got a non standard crossmember in as long as its solid if not thats just ridiculous………..as every landrover on the road would be ####ed on the chassis system given the amount of patches, weld on bits like tubular outriggers instead of box ones etc etc

What question?????????? only question is when is it going to the scrapper. We have a behind the scenes by PM'S a bookie going with bets being placed as to when this will run or scraped :behindsofa:

got the next week off so may get a chance to fire it up then, getting a defender rear body to put on it tomorrow

only thing stopping me from trying atm is the engine mount and gearbox mount that need welding in properly

I'm 22... and ambitious!!

Money is your limit on what you do if you want a lowered 110 hi cap would look cool. Have a look at alive tuning as they have kits for the supension and engine mods for the td5 putting out 245HP and are fast as hell. Have a look at there site you will see:D

One thing to ask of you DO NOT MAKE THIS THREAD 7 MONTHS OLD WITH 4 THOUSAND POST WITH 5 DIFFERENT THREADS ON THE SAME THING JUST WORDED A LITTLE DIFFERENT

Firstly, repairs don't count as mods. Secondly not every landrover has had the chassis altered in any way, all 3 of mine are exactly as they have left the factory.

So you have lost several points and on your way to a Q plate, A defender box is different than a series box

It will definitely be a money pit but so is life so I might as well tip my savings into something fun!
Anyway, I can start by just purchasing a 110 pick-up and lowering it.
The bobtail can be done in a weekend I reckon with a stihl saw and a welder.
other things are superficial and can be added later.

You cant put firstly then not have a point to go with it!

And secondly more or less all then! Especially old ones! Any weld on rock sliders etc would remove the chassis points, bolt on goodies, new engine mounts for engine swaps etc………the list of pedantic stupidity is huge when you think about it

Have you had the engine running yet? ;)

not me but the guy sent me a vid of him running it before I went to collect :p it sounded nice
