Is this a Bad Idea?

Hello,
My name is Alex and I'm new to this forum.
I'v had this idea for a couple of years now but I'm really starting to think seriously about a project and I would like some opinion before I start if that's ok.
My inspiration comes from this: Celebrity Builds - The World Famous West Coast Customs®

Would you think it would be stupid of me to attempt this sort of look with a 110 pick-up? Has anyone already tried something like this?
I know I can get a Defender lowered pretty easily but I'm also thinking of bobtailing it and even sending the exhaust stack vertical, behind the cab almost like a truck.
Iv searched the internet a lot and can't find anything similar so I'm thinking its either going to be really unique or I'm crazy because everyone else thinks it looks like rubbish and that's why no one has done it before?

Sorry for being so direct in my first post but I want to know as much as I can before I sell my car and commit to it.

I'm edging towards a hi cap actually but finding one in good nick in my area is a tough job.

Even considering starting from the ground up with a galv chassis, recon engine/gearbox and a donor vehicle for everything else. It will be more expensive but at least I know it will last as I would do a few road miles in it.

that'll be on a Q plate then, surely?

done well, and it has the potential to be awesome, just dont do it matt back.

Yeah hi caps due to there nature are abused

Yes that'll be a Q plate which could prove a nightmare when I come to insure the damn thing!

Matt black is definitely off the list; I'm thinking a metallic blue with black rims at the moment but I don't want to start worrying about that and get ahead of myself.

Personally I think you are mad, and should be shot for even considering turning a perfectly good land Rover into an imitation yank tank, when there are plenty of already ****e jap pickups you can ruin

Having said that, if done properly, a 110 can be customised so that it looks awesome, personally I would get a 110 pickup and go for the tomb raider look.

how so???????????? if you rechassis a 110 or 90 you don't, and how many have put disco re axles on? 2,4,6" lift kits and different motors.
So the kid lowers it and changes motors Whats the problem. or the ones that do a cummins or perkins?

Did the peep who put a 6.3 chevy into his fender have to be q plate?? whats the issue

You are correct, as long as the chassis is as original, or a brand new replacement is used, along with enough major components to keep enough points, then a Q plate is not needed.

So if I used a new chassis and new suspension set up but everything else used (possibly from different donor vehicles), would I need a Q plate?

keeps axles -2

keeps suspension albeit lowered springs then - 2 or if going for full lowered pneumatics then lose 2

chassis as long as not modded majorly - 5 (people say not modded at all but if so then a patch when welding would be a mod……in theory as the chassis was meant to be one solid piece not welded patches onto a solid.)

steering - 2

engine - 1 - replace with yank block for that rumble! lose 1

gearbox - 2 - mod to fit yank box with adaptor so keep points

All Defender parts

Would love some series doors and possibly some respectable recaro seats if I can afford them but not any of those primary coloured mock ups out of Halfords.

If the chassis is a brand new item that is identical to the old one, then that is ok, you also need several original, or like for like replacements of components from the original vehicle. The major components are assigned a points value, and you need 8 points in order to keep the vehicles original ID. The points are as follows, and they must be original or like for like replacements;

Chassis - 5 points
Suspension - 2 points
Axles - 2 points
Transmission - 2 points
Steering - 2 points
Engine - 1 point

But remember, this is assuming you are using the unmodified original or brand new chassis. If you modify the chassis in any way, then it is irrelevant how many other original components you use, you will need a Q plate.

Buy second hand seats and get them retrimmed.
