I need to buy some new power steering pipes. Looking them up I got in to the old 'these are for up to JA918809' b@ll@ks. Go on then, I thought, have a look at ya VIN number and try to get ya head around it.
If you've ever tried this, it's a bit like contemplating where space ends.
Anyway, I've got a Defender 90 , date of first registration 17th December 1996. It's a P reg 300Tdi, so I always say 'It's a 96 P reg, 300Tdi', seems logical.
My VIN number starts like this SALLDVB67V
So, not scared of the space-time continuum I started looking in to my VIN number in detail.
SAL = Land Rover Ltd
LD = 90 or 110
V = 90" (L/R)
B = 2 door station wagon
6 = According to Dingo Croft, I should have an F at this point to signify a 2.5L Tdi engine
7 = RHD 5 speed
V = 1997 M/Y (mine is a 1996) Is this because it was registered in December?
Why does mine have a 6 after the B? ...................................and where does space end?
