before I go out with a can of petrol and a lighter i've had a look at this article
Rebuilds and the law - by Glencoyne 4x4 (Thetford)
how would I know if it was built before 1998 on the old system

look at the engine receipt date? sure you could claim that.. but you are kidding yourself. you thought it was meant to be a s3, the chassis number says s2a and it looks like a 90.

I doubt there is any part on it from a s2a or s3.. apart from the number plate :D

That's all well and good but I bet it's not got the s11a chassis number on the chassis, chassis number is key, if it's different or missing then your in trouble

Also as my link showed the engine number hasn't been updated either on the v5

plate raped.
as others have said, the motor could have come from anywhere, tho to me it don't look like a rebuild from the pics shown. suspect newer motor with an old id tag from a scrapper.
headache waiting to happen, specially if it turns out to be stolen.

how long have you owned it?

the pic of the front axle...

steering damper on the axle, thats from a RRC? aren't defenders/disco attached to the chassis at the front.

just read through this whole story,
and it is becoming a story, from all angles..

as I dont know matey with "strange" fender/s2/s3/wtf landrover,
a) how do I know the guy is legit.. an honest question - no slur intended

b) I cant find mateys photos of dumbiron/chassis numbers, has it been posted/ did I miss them/ has anyone seen the chassis numbers?

lets be honest, theres not many vehicles made and sold without a chassis number,
as even my MOT man checks this before he tests my disco each year,
as how does he know I have not "rung" the old girl. ??

as i`m no eggspurt on all landies, only know so much about my old girl,
but between the 1000`s of LZoners,
why has it taken so long to get to see mateys chassis/engine/ and maybe gearbox numbers, come to that, diff numbers too..
also the glass carries indentification dots for those that know too..

it sure is a case of alice in the looking glass, it gets stranger the more you read...

Didn't know about any arrests, but that twunt did buy a rotten tax exempt series during the thread so must have been thinking something might happen or wanted to clone another

hmm wonder if youll be in a similar position with your v8, 88 king cab , 5 speed ,lsd rear axle motor:D

from track rod, that pic looks genuine 90. (inc rest of motor)
series from drag link to chassis.

Ive never seen any defender/90/110 with a steering damper attached to trackrod. :) They all have went from drag link to chassis.
I know RRC had the steering damper from axle to trackrod because I cut mine off and moved it to dragling/chassis because it kept getting mangled :)

So using my super duper powers of deduction and elimination and some (a lot of) presumption I conclude the fromt axle is from a tax exempt RRC. Got to be worth a point or 2 that :)

Series?? no idea about them.

just googled it, and seems both are used. (drag link to chassis being the more common)
whether original to 90/110 ive no idea. but I found a pic of one I worked on, and that's diff to track rod.

Guess the OP is gone, never to return. Wonder if he did get his money back or just said f*ck it and is driving it around.
