Took my F/L back in today for them to get it up on the ramp and check the 4WD out 15mins later I received an apology and he said they have a F/L coming in to strip for parts and the IRD will be fitted to my car at no extra charge. :D

I had to get the wife to hide the keys to the shotgun cabinet;) he said he was going to sack the mechanic who tested it after the last work was done because its hard to get Landrover approval but easily lost but he obviously forgot that he told me he helped him test it last time, but I'm not complaining anymore as I'm now getting a good used IRD with fitting and its only cost me £150 I can't even buy one for that price.

I'm not sure if anyone will lose their job or not he probably said it to appease me but I think I have now got a great deal so don't want to rock the boat.

Totally agree, why cut your nose off etc, life's to short. You might need their help in the future, who needs to make another enemy.

I'm pretty sure they will now they know I'm not some numpty who knows nothing about cars and I'll be checking its all ok after its done funny thing is he's now calling the whole unit the IRD instead of the pinion shaft.

The average seller of any product/service would happily use sweeping statements to confirm what you paid for was done proper. "We've done loads of these and never had any problems... there's nothing to fail... we're eggspurts... 2000 units sold and your the only 1 to come back..." It's far too easy to tell someone you checked or did something. They may never know the difference. I don't think he'll sack someone for this. that sort of statement is just the to appease the customer. The fact that his terminology has changed means he's now looked into this. Probably on ere (which int a bad thing as there's a number of companies who asked fer help when starting out). It could just be a mistake and he took the work on to keep busy. He could have been trying to get one over on you which is why the receipt carefully says what they did, as opposed to what you asked for. If he's fitting a replacement IRD for free then you've done well out of it. Make sure the wheels turn as said before and put some miles on it to confirm all is ok. Then put it down to eggsperience and enjoy your Freelander.

There's always the option to shoot the feker from long range without notice too. But make sure the replacement IRD is ok first.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and thinking of it as a genuine mistake it saved me from getting angry which won't do me any good and could lose me the goodwill as they could easily say that I got what I asked for as it was a verbal agreement and I don't have any witnesses, I'm just happy that he is sorting it out.

Just thought I'd post an update, I had my FL booked in on 30/10/13 to have the IRD replaced with a second hand one but things didn't go to plan they had my car all day from 7:30am and rang me up at 3:00pm to say it wouldn't be getting done as the boss was off and he wanted to do the job himself :(
It was then booked in for today 6/11/13 and I took it in at 7:30am again, this time I was rung up at 3:00pm to say it was ready and I could pick it up and although I haven't had time to do a wheel up test yet it does seem to drive different just feels more solid somehow so looking good.:)
Heres the strange thing it now seems to have more low down power which is something I've been trying to achieve since buying the car this I think seems to be because the gearing seems lower now when I look at the rev counter in 4th or 5th gear it seems to be reving higher at 30mph and I can now just about pull 5th gear at 30mph on the flat.
I don't think they did any other work apart from the IRD so could there be any other explanaton apart from the gearing, is it possible the other IRD was from a V6 or would that not fit at all.
