Ok, Gents, your opinions pls...

I've got a Feelander 1 GS kv6 thing. Air con knackered, sunroof buggered, drivers side door not working properly, right passenger side window won't open, the inlet manifolds were starting to rattle and now , a week ago, sounds like the timing belt commited suicide :(

Basically my question is, keep, repair or bin it and move on? taking into account I bought it second hand and paid £5k for it......

Cheers,
Iain

Do you want to buy the Brooklyn bridge, make you a good deal?

Without actually seeing the vehicle it is a difficult question to answer. Some of the problems you have listed could be easy and cheap fixes and some maybe not so easy and cheap, ie cambelt (not sure weather you mean noisy or snapped) Parts are easy to get some being cheaper than others. Work out a repair bill, remove that figure from the price of buying a decent Freelander KV6 then see how the offset works out by selling yours?

Repair bill £1600
Decent KV 6 £4000
Leaving £2400

If you could sell yours for £2400 or more, repair it, if it's a sack of st*t worth £500, don't waste your money repairing it.

Well to give you an idea, the local freelander mugge.....sorry dealership quoted a possible £2k just for belt replacement, tensioners etc :( never mind the rest...oh, dunno how much a sunroof replacement costs in the UK, but here I was quoted £600....

If you've got access to tools & facilities, then it might be worth trying a secondhand engine, otherwise sell for spares.

Don't worry about the ones highlighted in bold. Those are all standard features on the Freelander.

How long have you had it and what age is the Freelander?

Definitley go for the repair, DIY, good learning curve and its a nice project too. just like the other breed of Landy owners, welding outriggers, doors, chasiss, bulkheads and pretty much everything else!! At least your project will be pretty much bolt on stuff and even a chance for a few modifications along the way. The satisfaction at the end will be worth it. Experience priceless. Might even be worth getting an old freebie as a donor too.

Until something else goes wrong two weeks later. Since I bought my TD4 just over a year ago, I don't think I've gone 2 months without something going wrong. I see it as a joke now and don't take the Freelander seriously at all. Still, I like it but god knows why!

Rich, I bought my TD4 2 years ago and havent had much wrong with it in that time. I suppose its down to its previous history. Mine was ex-rental so would have been serviced regularly.

Well, I was offered a good deal on a Mitsu Pajero 2.8tdi, so went for it....

....anyone need a Freelander paperweight? :)

...and thanks for the advice guys! :)To be honest, the Gaylander was a bit small in the boot area anyway, and quite frankly, the Landy dealership here in Gib sucks **** through a hosepipe, so I've offered the Gaylander up for sale, as is, for anyone who's interested...
