Hi all, I`ve got a Defender TD5 2002, 160,000 mls. On start up there`s a cloud of greyish-whitish smoke that's just started. There's loss of power and it seems to be taking more diesel. Could anyone confirm it's the turbo that's ready for replacement or I've been told it could be the fuelling or mass air flow sensor.
Thanks in advance, Hal

Hi,

We have a whole forum for the hippo lovers, probably a better place to ask.

But I think you'd be better to put a diagnostics on it to see what the computers are saying, no point hurling parts at it without first knowing what the problems are, random part replacement is a lottery and it can get expansive fast.

Sounds like injectors though as grey/white smoke is unburned fuel.

Garage and proper diagnostics is the only way to know for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I'll follow your advice and get it diagnosed. Can you tell me if I'm going to damage it if I drive it to the garage.

Unlikely, just too much diesel being injected in. With that mileage your probably looking at replacement new or recon set to balance engine.
