Hi all I'm really hoping somone might be able to assist me.........

I recently serviced my 2003 defender TD5, in the service kit was a new fuel filter. When I changed this the filter head was corroded and snapped off from the chassis (common problem from what I understand). Quickly bought myself a new filter head (Genuine Landy Part). Once fitted I had trouble starting the engine, I purged the system several times and almost run the battery flat trying to start it. Eventually I took the filter off and noticed it was only half full. I then took head off and noticed there was a restrictor of some kind in rear left brass valve/connector I belive this is a non return Valve!?!? This was not present on the old head that I remove so I took out out, refitted, purged and it started first time........ Happy days. Well it's now been on an out 10 days and I have had 3 occasions where the engine started and then immediately cut out, after a bit of cranking it has started (with effort), once running if feels very sluggish. Next time it may start and run fine?!?! I can see no leaks and everything is connected correctly.

Sorry for the ramble but I'm far from an expert and wanted to give all the information. If anyone has any ideas that may assist me finding and fixing the problem I would be very greatful.

I'm almost at breaking point with my Landy having spent almost £2500 on repairs this year (replacement transfer box, replacement front diff, replacement front axle..........). I really don't want to sell it as it's my pride and joy, but it's also my everyday vehicle and I need it to be reliable (well more so than it is now)

Thanks all

Thanks all
the air bleed valve (restrictor )should be in the rear outer side brass fitting

That's great thank you. So I know what I'll be doing after work tomorrow.
A little annoyed as was in the wrong place when I received it from the supplier........ and I paid extra for the official Land Rover Part!
Again thank you so much I will update once I've put the valve back in
