Hello to All.
Very, very new to all this forum discussions, have read some and found it to be invaluable.
Have just recently bought my first ever LandRover Discovery 2 td5 manual 2001 and very pleased with it we are too. My wife and I moved from long history of Volvo estates which do go on forever (299,000 miles and last one 243,000 miles) but they are rather low for ease of access. We decided on Land Rover as its a proper 4x4 and British and always wanted one. My mates all say "should have bought a Honda, Toyota etc".
However, after a few weeks the Landrover has developed a fault that I cannot get any further with. Basically, when you open any door the interior lights do not come on. They operate correctly with the switches (so not power problem). They also do not come on when operating the key fob. Its a bit of a pain as I am an hgv driver starting at daft o'clock in morning and putting stuff in total darkness is awkward. I now keep torches as well as stretching into vehicle to operate the switch. The keyfob operates correctly and does lock/unlock the doors. I do not have the EAK codes. (if its enabled).
Some threads have suggested the BCU needs reprogramming, some say fault with earth wires but am at a loss.
Any one seen this before, local LR specialist says that BCU is robust and probably not that.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks and Happy New Year

Tony.

Hi, the most common failure for that is corrosion in connector C0484/0102 , concentrate on t he purple/blue wire(usually pin 16), if that's rueld out and still no joy we'll speak again

Hello, Good Morning.
Thank you for your reply, yes have found from other replies that this most likely the problem, Neilly kindly sent link to rave download which I have done and will print out the circuit diagram much like your one. At least it looks like I don't have to worry about getting new/used bcu unit. Will try the connectors first.
Thanks again.
Tony..

You'll have to check continuity between BCU's C0663 pin 9 and any lamp's purple/blue wire before blaming the BCU cos the circuit goes through other two header joints which are not so common but possible failures

Thank you for that, I do have a multimeter and think I'm ok at following diagrams. Makes you wonder why LR put delicate pieces of electrical equipment in places where damp/corrosion is likely. I'm told the sunroof drain passes bcu and can be cause of moisture. All other functions of the bcu appear to be working ok.
Regards..

Thanks to everyone who responded. Just a quick update. After printing out wiring diagrams, earth points, bcu connector diagrams and glove box removal instructions. Got into the car this afternoon and all interior lights working again after several weeks of darkness!! Probably a short lived relief as believe this indeed points to what everyone has said that it is likely to be wiring/connector issue due damp/corrosion. I will of course check out the area under the glove box for damp and also the connectors on bcu (hopefully when it's not 3 degrees outside).
Thank you.
Regards

Tony..
