what are the benefits of cleaning out the intercooler?
make sure you wash it out with some high flash solvent and DONT smoke, if it fills up with oil you need to look seriously at the turbo oil seals mine did this then went bang
Increased power is good, obviously..but efficiency is also vital when faced with Mr Brown these days..lol
Just a minute
Performance can mean many different things not just extra grunt.
MPG,Reliabilty,ease of starting,overtaking e.t.c.
All of these things can be improved by preventative mantenanc.
It doesn,t have to cost an arm and a leg either.
Have a look at DLS uk ltd on e-bay.
Panhard bushes for £3.80 a pair inc just bought some.
Loads of other stuff.
Did the intercooler on the Tdi 300 yesterday, seemed straightforward enough to do. I did however find a small leak of black oil at the bottom of the intercooler which I assume was from the rubber hose.
Filled it up with white spirit (no leak, see above) and left it overnight. Emptied it out and the fluid was now black but to be honest it diddn't look like a lot of crap in it.
Anyway, after a prudent delay to allow the white spirit fumes to evaporate, I put her back together and to be honest she DID feel a little more lively.
Most of the time I drive her on a light throttle, but yesterday gave her a bit more and she positively shot off (within the realms of Disco performance you understand ) down the road, so I'm hoping this might help with mpg.
Now seriously thinking about silicone hoses - paddocks do them for about £50.
Dunno if it's the same as yours, but this might give ye an idea...What type of job does the removal entail I.E.
Time/special tools/knowing many words from a blue bible???
