Hi,

I discovered a split in the long intercooler hose of my TD4 at the weekend, after developing a whooshing sound under hard acceleration. I now have the replacement part but cannot fit it due to the ridiculous positioning of the jubilee clip connecting to the intercooler!! I have some tools at work which I think will be suitable, but can't do it until tomorrow evening. In the meantime I have about a 20 mile journey to do - will this damage the turbo with the hole still present? Or cause any other issues? As yet there's no smoke and only noticeable accelarating (and with the radio muted!). I can't even do a temp repair as the split is right at the back of the hose.

Thanks

Can't you wind some electrical tape or similar around the hose? Not be perfect but better than a gaping hole

I remember said clip , it is a pig I used a small combo spanner could only get a slight turn each time , took ages but got there in the end !

I think i've got an oily leak from the same joint on mine to be honest, loads of oily spray residue on everything under it

Short term fix use the duct tape. It is a right pain in the proverbial. When I changed my hoses, I made sure the T bolt clip was positioned where I could get at easily.

Thanks for the tips.

Split is right at the bottom, no way of duct taping it. Gonna take a little while with a 6mm spanner me thinks. No thought into the positioning of this whatsoever!!
