But you've not reached the age to have passed the driving test yet, how the hell have you managed to get a quote, without lying that is.

Yep good lucky. Landys arnt cheap to insure when your young. I payed 2500 tpft through my dad when I was 18!!!

I found the cheapest insurance company for myself on a 2004 Mitsubishi shogun was CIS Insurance | Now The Co-operative Insurance (although I will never understand insurances, it was cheaper by a long way! to insure a 2004 3.2 shogun than a p'reg 2.5 disco..go figure) one reason I couldn't afford a disco, but I have finally now got one :D
I have actually taken out a policy this evening with Classic Car Insurance & Specialist Car Insurance | Adrian Flux for around £750 with all the trimmings, can't complain really! :).. worth the hassle of shopping around! (might be worth trying 4x4 Insurance | Cheap 4x4 Car Insurance | Sureterm Direct as well) Best of luck, but for your age it is not going to be cheap :(

Also be aware that on some classic / restricted insurance policies, you will not be entitled to any NCB no matter how long you are insured, assuming you haven't had any claims.

CO-OP was £2000 for my Defender, on my own name for the first year, very good service off them to be fair :)

My godson, 20 years old, no NCB (he drives like an eejit and has since he passed his test) has to pay around £2,500 pa for insurnace on a Fiat <del>Cincquc</del> (21) thingy, that weighs the square root of bugger all so has limited potential for collateral damage, I'm amazed a nw driver can get insurance for a landy of any variety considering they wont stop if they do hit summat.

NCB makes the difference, has he got any points?

By pure good luck (I see no other reason) he does not.

I did work out what it would cost me to insure my Rover 75, if I lost my NCD, it's really quite scary as I now get 70+ (depending on insurer) percent disccount.

My last premium was around £270 fully comp, at 70% NCD that makes my 'real' premium close to a grand. I'm heading for 50 with 3 points on my license for speeding in a 40 zone (please don't go there, almost 3 years on I'm still ****ed over it), no fault accidents against me, the car is worth about 50p :D

Yeah I have a 50% discount with just 1 years NCB, but the premium is £3000 which makes it £1500, apparenlty insurance plumets when you get to 25, still a way to go

You pay too much what ever car you have at that age its not fair no wonder some of these kids drive with none they are guilty from the start in the insurance companys eyes

£2700 for my R reg fiat punto, then went to £900.. then got bored of driving that hunk o junk and got a 90, 2 years no claim £1100 at the age of 19. Good luck getting insured at 17, you might be better off getting a few years no claims and **** like that. Unless you is loaded, then by all means get a landy!

I've got to agree with that, when I was a 17 yo kid I was paying about 2 week's wages for a year's car insurance, all be that on a 1,300 Triumph Toledo or Morris Marina Coupe.

I insured a 3.1 litre savage conversion capri for a month's wages, now that was fun. pity I couldn't afford tyres and petrol for long :)

I know that car insurance is cut throat, lots of insurance companies vieing for our quid, so young drivers must present one hell of a risk over those in their mid 0s, or the 'lucky' tw@ts in the mid 40s and beyond.

When I think of some of the cars I got insurance on before I hit 25 I do feel sorry for the yoot of today :(
