Hello All.

Like to pick some brains on here if I may in regards to fitting a roof tent to a Hannibal roof rack for a discovery 1.

I managed to remove the tent and rack with the help of some mates, but if they are not around I'm sure not sure what I'm going to do.

Troubles I had was fitting my arm in between the roof and roof rack as the space is tight, and the sheer weight of the roof tent.

So I'm asking what methods do people use to either a lift and bolt a tent to the roof rack, or fit the tent on the ground and then lift the entire lot on to the car, again using some kind of tool if there not many people around.

Any feedback or thoughts would be appreciated.

I did see the YouTube video of the guy who puts the tent on the roof rack all by himself, but this is not practical on my discovery.

I have the same problem with my defender however I use roof bars so can fit them on the ground and lift the whole thing up. Lifting is a issue and if there are any tips would be great.

this os of no help to you but do you have a pic of the rack on your disco? im on the edge of my seat abouts to buy a hannibal. i just havent found any descent pics yet to make me do it.... thanks, and just to try and help maybe unbolt the rack and lift it up with some blocks of wood (still on the roof) bolt the tent on re attatch the rack?

If it is mounted on a roof rack, if you are billy no mates, use a ladder, you can man handle a 60kg onto the rack that way, bit of huffing and puffing but doable. I have an Eezi Awn and they are ****s to fit compared to say a Gordiegear or any china made tent with two bolt plate mounts. Eezi in there wisdom use board locking system, bitch to get the bolt to allign into the holes on the rack without leaving lots of scratch marks on the powdercoat !!

Bit of an old post this but I thought I make you have a chuckle.

Basically the YouTube video of installing a roof tent on the the roof rack, by yourself...., Does WORK.

Awkward is an understatement, but by creating a lifting angle then resting it on the spare wheel for a break before the final push on to the roof, was by far the easiest way I think.

Bolting on to the rack as awkward due to clearance for ones hands, but patience and its on.

So proud of myself lol

Will your truck fit in your garage ? I had a friend in Cape Town used to drive in to workshop /garage and block and tackle his up and drive out leaving it hanging there for storage, other than that have you a tree in your garden that you can do the same method with or near by? Then drop it down and wheel barrow it into your shed , I find a skate board works well with it on its side the tent that is.
