i got two they about £15 squid, diesel is just thin oil, all it will do is thin yer oil a bit but as you say the sump holds nearly 8 litres of the thick stuff, so no panic! course u gonna change the oil etc but you not gonna blow a BEB unless you go on 100 mile drive uphill!

Feel for ya buddy know that panic face only too well, its just metal and stuff, as i sad scratch chin chill slow and sure all good, try not to kick the cat !

£15 use for my minor service oil changes etc, only pull sump plug every third oil change......... howd ya think they change the oil on a boat engine!!!!

Sorry not see ya post earlier, been fighting with a ride on mower pulley and belts today, the little foooker have me muchos grief and smashed knuckles, i swear i saw the defender laughing at me.

I've shut up shop for the day, just hammered a bacon and sausage sarnie and gonna take dog a walk up the shop for some ale now (for me)

I'm thinking drop the sump tbh and do the oil pump bolt while I'm at it but you just know the dipstick ain't gonna come out

Edit I've just reminded myself the dipstick goes in the block

Found a sump 15 miles away for £35. Plan is grab that tomorrow and a new gasket and oil pump bolt Monday then replace drain plug in my sump at leisure and sell it on

@jamesmartin would the diesel in the bores have drained down into sump now or do I need to remove injectors again and keep turning engine by hand to expel it?

I took the turbo drain tube off the sump and drained 20 litres of oil/diesel

Plan is to get as much diesel as I can out of top of engine, put injectors back then replace sump doing oil pump bolt at same time. Just concerned about knowing the bores are clear of diesel

the diesel in the bores will drain into the sump ,turn engine over by hand a couple of turns if you think there might be

Injectors back out now, turning with ratchet and loads of diesel firing out still

must have been very full ,shouldnt get any more fuel if ignitions off after youve let the pressure go by removing an injector

the only way you get fuel in the bores is poor washers when you remove the first injector, poorly injector or heads got a crack

Something wasn't right with number 5 on refitting, changed o ring back to an original one and it wasn't leaking. But when I'd refitted everything and started the engine no 5 would have been gushing diesel out, would that fill the bores?

What's my options here James? I was thinking if I've got all old oil and diesel out I could refit everything now I know injectors aren't leaking with new oil and filters but if heads cracked I'm ****ed aren't i

its the washer that would have to be poor to fill bores the o ring fills the rocker box then sump,if you put it back together and theres no leaks jobs done after oil change,if you use a 19mm spanner and remove the switch on the fuel pressure regulator it will drain head before removing an injector, otherwise removing injector to check bores also fills them or the first injector bore thats removed,you can bend a conrod which is why you turn by hand to start with

Right, I had the quick connect hoses disconnected from FPR and cooler so should've been Ok? Just undone switch, tiny dribble of fuel.

So where I am is

Injectors are out,

FPR is disconnected and switch is out,

Turning engine by hand is easy now and I think there's nothing in the bores now,

Sump is as empty as can be from turbo drain pipe hole, about to whip sump off due to rounded seized drain plug.

Then plan is

Fit new sump

Fit Injectors, check for leaks on ignition 2. If ok put top back together

New oil, filters and away we go?

fit injectors etc,if your removing sump dont switch ignition on till its off and oils stopped dripping then if you switch ignition on turn engine over by hand and check to see if any diesel drips out of block

Fit rocker shaft as well and set clearances?

youll have to eventually but its not necessary to check for leaks

Sumps off, injectors still out, turning engine by hand still got slight amount of 'stuff' being ejected from bores. Leave overnight to drain down or fit injectors now and test? Ive mopped as much as i can from the top
