Indicator problem!

Hi,
I drive a defender 90 300tdi 1994, nd when i go round corners my indicators go off as soon as i start to turn the wheel. which has caused some scary moments going round roundabouts nd stuff. happens when going left and right. I have to keep my hand holding them on, when tuirning! Anybody got any ideas? all help appreciated.

cant help with the problem however i have a simialr issue- mine wont self cancel thus staying on! I think there is some sort of switch within the indicator stalk but im sure someone will be along shortly to reveal all!

i have cured this problem the other week....got a new stalk and now works a treat.

Easy part to replace or not?

Get a new stalk £15, simple enough to replace, take the wheel off (if its got an airbag seek out further info on disabling it first) by undoing the cover screws, removing that then take the big nut off, then you can use a hammer to tap from behind the wheel until it comes off.

Take the covers off, then you can unscrew the frame that holds the stalks off, the new one will come complete with a new frame, so you need to take the wiper stalk off the old one and reattach to the new one. I can't remember but I think the headlight and foglight switch are also on this frame. The reason the indicator stalk has the new frame with it is it has the new centre bearing which runs the self cancling system, which in your case has broken.

The little pins that lock in when you indicate break and or strech open stopping them from doing there job.

15min job, can even be done in the dark.
