Hello everyone

I want to buy a ex mod Defender 110 Lhd in the UK.

It will be registered and mot'd for the UK. I want to be able to eventually import into Portugal as I am a resident there.

The issues I can forsee are ... I need to find an official coc document for an Ex military vehicle? Even possible ?

Also portuguese insurance... Will they be hostile to an ex military vehicle?

As a resident of I am not legally allowed to drive a forign can unless in the importation process...

Cheers in advance

I wouldn't have thought it's ex military life would be an issue. If it had tracks and a turret i could understand, but a Land Rover? I would have thought not.
If you can find the military registration number on a plate or sticker, then you can use it to search for it's recorded military history using either Merlin:

or RCL:

Merlin is free, RCL costs.

I used both to trace the history of my 101. They both held pretty much the same info but RCL gave me a date for when 72GJ27 was at a field hospital when Merlin recorded it had been there but had no date.
What you won't get is any documentation from the MOD, just where it had been during it's service.
Do you have to declare the 110 is ex military? If there isn't a specific box that needs ticking, i wouldn't bother saying anything.

As for insurance, it isn't an issue in this country what is used to do for a living any more than what the third previous owner did with it. They just want to know about any modifications and what YOU are going to do with it.
I'd advise making sure there aren't any weapons still strapped to any gun brackets though. That WOULD be a problem for you 😁

Depending on Portuguese lmport would find out about their requirements first before purchasing as it may never comply with emissions control

If you have a CoC and, equally as important, have owned the vehicle prior to Brexit, 01/01/2021.
You will have a certain procedure to follow as if, prior to Brexit procedure.

If not, you will have to undergo vehicle examination and pay all import taxes and VAT.
