Hi all,
Got an interesting issue with my 2000MY TD5 at present. Pulled onto a Morrison's forecourt to fill up and while waiting in the queue to get on the pumps I switched the engine off. When trying to start again....nothing. All lights on but no fuel pump running, no relays clicking. Obviously the immobilzer. Locked the doors, waited for the alarm to set and unlocked but still nothing. After a couple of minutes pushed it out of the queue and left it for a while and had a walk. About 15 minutes later started OK.
Trawled the internet and found that some fuel stations use 'Watchman' wireless fuel level monitors. Looked for the tech spec and found that they transmit up to 300 metres using 433MHz frequency, coincidentally the same frequency as my Key fob uses. Rest of the day car started fine.
Pulled on to a Waitrose petrol station and sat at pumps, same thing happened. Pushed car away from petrol station and car started fine.
Now most of the time I wait for glowplug light to go out, turn key (nothing happens) let key return to position II and then immediately turn to start position again and it starts.
Has anybody else had this problem or use this double key turn technique to start their car?
Also recently found out that 'Delphi' mobile phone masts can cause the same problem for DII. I haven't looked into this yet.If I find out what these are I'll add to this post later.
Regards
