P38A im starting to hate this thing

You are looking for a+ voltage when remote is pressed and yes a lot of other car remotes and a lot of other wireless items like door bells, weather stations, wireless internet and the like will wake up the becm unless you lucky and have the 3rd gen receiver.

locate the r/f receiver, disconnect the orange wire, set mulit meter to volt range usually 20v, black lead to earth and the other to the orange terminal on the r/f and activate the fob. You should get a + reading if it's working.
