If I wanted perfect handling

Having owned 2 range rovers and now on my second disco ( A battered 1994 TDI ) and never having one that could be driven over 60mph without the fear of god of losing control I would be interested to know what I would need to change to have just for once a car that handled as it should.

Being a non car person I would need a list of things to do from you guys to take to the garage. I know that the knuckle bit ( big shiny round thing ) that right next to the wheel on the drivers side is leaking and read somewhere about a use once greese kit? I dont want to mess about and would rather hit the whole problem at once. What would I need to change to get the car "Perfect" and see if I can at least do the speed limit. Having large trucks up my rear on windy motorways is no fun!

So if anyone could do a list of things to change that would be great, better still if any of you guys fancy the job and are local give me a PM or reply here, thanks guys... PS Unless I double de clutch from 1st to 2nd Gear there is a very nasty grind, does this mean I need a new gear box too?

If you want perfect handling...buy a Ferrari

If you want to improve the handling of your Disco..a poly-bush kit will help, but that assumes everything else is in working order.

You don't say why you fear loosing control - what are the symptoms? Why not get it into a Land Rover specialist and ask them to check it over, or you could replace everything only to find you've wasted your money (no comment please YD )

i'd check wheel balance , did mine cos runnin on big and heavy steel modulars cruise's nice at 70 plus , and a good steering damper stops the schimmy

I had a series 1 V8 disco that handled like a trapped pig over 65mph.

Got all the wheels balanced and full 4 wheel tracking done, After that she would cruise at 90mph all day, Well or until it ran out of petrol !!!!

It was the best £50 i ever spent on the beast.

anyway if iam thinking what you are fit some anti roll bars
i have had a few early range rovers and fitted them, they handle a lot better as long as all the springs, shocks and bushes are ok, but the crap off road tho

For the use once grease in the swivel pin housing, there should be a sticker under the bonnet to say it's been done.

My 200tdi is fine on the motorway up to 90 (the car can't go any faster than that) but I wouldn't want to try going round any kind of bend at that speed in it! Maybe your steering damper or shocks are worn out?
