I reckon the L322 would be good off road with a decent set of tyres. Not a direct comparison I know but took a Disco3 out a while ago on standard (and worn) tyres and I was very surprised at how effortlessly it went over things, including mud.
 
but mine dont cost £50k and mine dont have tc and electrickery gadgets
so why dont you see any l322 with "propper" tyres on offroading?

when yours was new its more than likely it didnt go off roading either. imo once prices start to come down and the L322 becomes more affordable then i recon you will see quite a few.

main reason classics, discos etc are so common now is they are so cheap to buy/maintain thanks to age & depreciation.

already starting to see quite a few D2s going that route so only a matter of time ;)
