Hi each and all - I have just fitted a brand new Radiator to go with the New thermostat, torque converter, Timing belt kit, idlers & rollers, hand brake module, track rod arms, gearbox oil and flush, engine oil and filter, battery, Right Side Camshafts ( Land Rover ) Rocker arms ( INA ) Tappets ( Ina ) ETC ETC ETC - on my Money Pitt

Now to me there should not be smoke coming out of my empty cooling system, please take a look and confirm my suspicions that it looks like either my Head Gasget or Cracked block

Regards Darren

Headgasket or cylinder head issues, i doubt it has a cracked block..
And to be honest if you were doing cams and tappets why not remove the cylinder head and do the gaskets?
+ a light skim?

I was going to - wish I had now, one other thing, do you have to change both banks L&R as I know my problem is on the Right Bank -

Regards Darren.

You have to skim both heads if your doing it...the only time you dont is if your taking the head of for something other than blown headgasket as in my case a snapped sparkplug...

NIGHTMARE lol - crazy as it drives sweet and never overheats - was hoping to have her done with the snow we have coming - my bmw and minibus are both rear wheel drive - ohh well I will start it Sunday providing I am not snowed in - thanks for confirming my suspicions Henry

Appreciate you drained the system but you aren't going to get every drop out.
Before you start taking everything to bits are you sure that what you're seeing isn't steam?
Was there anything else to make you believe you have an hg problem?

The Engine was cold - and yes my coolant system was pressurising to the point where the Expansion tank cap was popping every 15 seconds or so to vent the steam/smoke

Can you not just check the tolerance with a straight rule?

The engineer who removed the broken plug said if the head was off for blown gasket it would have to be skimmed as it was likley cooked therefore both would have to be done to keep them the same but as mine wasnt it would be fine...

you only skim a head if necessary
