a disco will stretch the fuel a bit further than a fender.....with your (parents) budget you are looking at discos or a tidy series.......all cars go wrong which is expensive so keep things simple and learn how to fix it yourself....200tdi would be my choice as its less electrics than the 300. Lots of 200tdi discos around and a fair few series but for fooks sake dont buy anything without someone who really knows their way round a Landy

Nope, a V8 will be around 13-16mpg but a Tdi will get you around the 30 mark, be it in a Disco or a Defender.

300 tdi for 2k will need allot of work... i got mine for 2k about 18 months ago it needed rear tub, 3 doors ,seats ,head gasket, radiator, clutch,an a load of other stuff i cant think of o an it was a truck cab for 2k you will be looking at project vehicles even 3k it will still need a fair amount of work

theres a year before you need it so plenty of time to do a thread

hi all
im 16 and of course driving is now about a year off and personally i think a landrover defender 90 with a 300i engine is the perfect first car for me because ive looked at various insurance quotes and they are not too high. i also love landrovers to bits and cant wait to get one. BUT i cant seem to find a landy thats around £2000 and i have looked at loads but all of the ones that are "perfect" seem to have some slight problems which will most likely turn into bigger ones later on.. or they have no rear windows. i would rather avoid any extra expenses as around £2000 is really really pushing it for my parents... i do not want the 1988 models because they are crap. just a defender 90 300i with a high milage (within reason) because i know landy's are very durable, and mainly aesthetic problems like cracking paint or rust.
how are pre 1990 models crap? with a 200/300tdi engine they are the same vehicle even the 19j can be a decent engine while you save up from your paper round.
my 110 200tdi will get 28-30 so would expect a little more from a 90 tdi (as long as you dont try doing 70 without a disco transfer box
)

the OP could have a race with you to who can get theirs running and off the drive first..................
my moneys on the op
