Come on guys let's not start to take one another too seriously or we are in danger of falling in the nerdy camp. We all own our P38s for whatever reason pure joy or masochism. All I have ever had from this site is help when I have needed it let's keep it that way

so you got the arse when others assumed(quite rightly) that beemer drivers are ganstas? Now your assuming that rangies dont go off road, and even worse-CANT!?!
Very wrong.

You're very wrong yourself - learn to read!! Where'd I say ALL Rangies don't go off road, or can't? Off course they can - they are capable but the electronics don't withstand really bad treatment off road. X5s can give them a go any time on road, however. A few enthusiasts take their Rangies off road, but statistically the numbers are very few!! Most people buying £70K worth of vehicle don't immediately rush out and smash it up crashing around green laning - they buy a Defender or similar or get an older Disco / Rangie to do that if that's their hobby. Footballer's wives cars are the definitive Chelsea Tractors, and very few ever leave the sanctity of the road network. :p

Waiting for your proof that I'm a gangsta because I drive a BMW.....that's just another one of those bigoted remarks made without a shred of evidence to support it:doh:

Where did you say cant?Here:
he fancy electronics certainly would not cope well with being hammered in true off road conditions or swamped in water, even if the 4x4 system works there:eek:!!
The electronics wont cope=cant
And for eveidence your a gansta=got a bimmer int ya?
I never sed they aint chelsea tractors, thats wot they are built for, but rangies have heritage, bimmers dont.

Crap. You only quoted two words, entirely out of context - won't cope with being seriously hammered off road or being swamped under water is actually what I said, which is entirely true. Doesn't mean the electronics can't actually do it, just that they will be seriously damaged with that kind of treatment and fail. Quite different.

X5 does have heritage - its modelled on the P38 Range Rover and the early L322......maybe they're crap, too? Or maybe you didn't actually know that.....:p

quite possibly crap

Maybe X5 should be considered an evolution of the RR that LR never got as far as producing:D

I think you may have a future as a politician:D:D

There's a lot of truth in that though - the X5 was designed when BMW owned Land Rover and it was based on a combination of the 5 and 7 series performance cars combined with Range Rovers and Discos all terrain capability to produce a car which would give a great driving experience on road and some of the off road qualities of the Land Rover products - the Hill Descent Control that was such a feature of the Disco 3 when it was launched, for instance, was just incorporated into X5s as standard and still is, plus quite a lot of other shared features. :D
