my 2001 DT 'seems' sluggish. Not had a RR before, but honestly have to bury the throttle pedal quite hard into the carpet to get sensible acceleration.
Now I am not expecting rocket performance, I've driven plenty of other TD 2 point something diesels but are these really quite lethargic? anyone near me want to have a go to tell me 'yeah that is slow' - or - thats it.. live with it?

mines ok but then its got a box on it. stepping from the sports car i think the main thing was the pedal travel before things kicked in, and someone mentioned here the other day that things dont really get going till 2500rpm in the diesel

Got a box on it? as in its manwell? (mines an auto - didn't mention that)
 
well..2ton plus car with 1 horse power...what do you expect??

get it chipped,add lpg turn up boost add bigger charge cooler..or fit a power stroke 7l v8 diesel..

PSI Power Box, simple plug n play job from Rimmer Bros and others transforms the beast but will shorten the life of your auto box. Remember to do the 30K oil changes on the box if you fir one.
The throttle peddle has a very long travel in keeping with off road use, you do need to floor it.:)
 
When I had a diesel P38 I was convinced it was dragging an anchor.........but I never did find it ! ;-)
 
the box was fitted by the last owner, we had a volkswagen van that was chipped before and that was ok but as you mention, i do worry about the pressure it puts on the gearbox, but then i hardly drive it like i stole it, the reason i bought a range again was so i could swan along more instead of feel the need to press on
 
Thanks all, it doesn't feel abnormal in anyway.. Just checking that having to put a self tapper through the throttle into the floor is normal.
I had a 3.9 disco a while back, so will live with the slow bumbling about as opposed to having shares in Esso :)
Got SRS light come on now so more to sort..

Check the connector on the yellow cable under each of the front seats:)
 
Thanks Datatek - I will. funnily a friend of mine looking at the car yesterday said 'what are those yellow cables under the seat' as the drivers one was hanging out visible from underneath - perhaps they have come apart.
I guess I can pull the connector apart and plug back in to reseat it without any agro?

Yes, ignition off no problem. the fault will clear if that is the problem. :D
 
I,m not too sure the 2.5TD should be fitted with the auto box, they,re down on power to begin with, then you go & lose a bit more with the auto option.
My 2.5 DSE needs to be driven at above 2000-2500 RPM to get any meaningful performance from it, & I regularly pull a 2500kg 4-wheel trailer all over the place, sure, it dont pull like the 3 x V8 petrols i,ve had, but 30 MPG towing on motorways (60-70) more than makes up for it!!
I have a German made plug-in power-box, made it go better etc., but made it smoke on the overrun, so its now on a shelf in the garage :confused:
You are correct however, if driven at low rpm in high gears, it seems very sluggish, so try & 'modify' your technique & let her spin up a bit more through the gears & I think you,ll find it more drivable, it may seem like your,e 'thrashing' it, but its still only 2-3000 rpm!
I don't know about the auto, is it possible to 'hold' the gears to allow higher rpm gearshifts?
The V8 guys wont agree with me, but for me, the fantastic MPG is more than worth the downside:)

..it is if you press the sport mode button - is a bit better but just seems to make more noise rather than leap into perfomance mode!! :)

Spot on my friend - thanks alot. I re-seated the plug under the drivers seat, clipped it back on to where it should be on the seat chassis as it has fallen off (or not been put back if someones been under there) and presto - no more SRS light/error

i have the same error, have done for ages, just had a quick fiddle to no avail, last owner said it was because him and his wife moved the seat back and forth a lot, maybe this will be a post osce job for tomorrow, if its not the actual connector could it be where it links with the becm?
 
For the sake of being tidy, I have an SRS thread running here for my issue, you might want to carry that one on..
But could be that your cabling has become damaged from seat to where it dissappears under the carpet?

It doesn't go anywhere near the BECM, the SRS is a stand alone system. The ECU is under the centre console roughly under the rear ashtray.
The only fault that will not reset is a "Fired Airbag" fault which requires a replacement ECU.:D
