How to remove front Prop-shaft without correct tools?

Hi All,

I've broken down in France on the way back to Calais (Figures).

I had a squeak, a rumble and then a Thud as the front prop separated from the transmission

Having had a look below the UK has gone completely.

I'm waiting to get towed off the motorway

I'd like to remove the front prop and then limp home on the rear prop.

I have a Halford 200 quid tool kit, an adjustable spanner and a few other tools. Will I be able to get the front prop off without having prop shaft nut spanners?

Help most gratefully received.
 
Just need 1 or 2 14mm spanners. You may be able to get an adjustable on one nut but you'll need a 14 for the other. They are 9/16 but will go on with a bit of force
 
Oooh Unlucky old chap,

depends if you can get a spanner that fits, you should have a 9/16 socket in that kit and you may find a 14mm spanner will do the job for you.

I use the halfords set too. I use the 3/8 ratchet and extension bar with the 9/16 socket, then a 14mm on the nut.
To help gain access on the diff side, may help if you jack up a wheel, which will allow you to rotate the prop and get to all bolts/nuts easy with any of the combinations above. HTH

Get it on the flat, handbrake off extension bar with a 9/16's socket (14 will work but you risk ruining the nuts then you will be stuck) possibly a spanner too, but the bolts should all be counterheld.

Roll the landy so you can get clear access to a nut, take it off, roll it again to get that one at the point you can get access, for the diff end you want to do the bottom ones as the prop angles upwards and the gearbox the top ones as the prop angles downward.

Cheers for all your help guys. Ive now made it back to home in Blighty. So now to buy a new prop and bits. Prop spanners etc
