How to keep constant 12v to radio?

I just replaced a broken radio in my 2002 Td5 Defender with a pioneer blue tooth one. Works great otherwise but when I turn the ignition off it turns off and I loose all settings on it. Any easy way to feed constant 12v and bypass the ignition key on the radio or have I missed something in the connections. It hooked right up with the converter cables that came along.

If you look at the new unit's wiring diagram it should specify the Ignition live (red in my case) and the Permanent live (orange?). The orange wire in my unit keeps the radio settings with the ignition off. The same source keeps the clock running and would power the immobiliser etc if I had one.

My 96 300 has a permenant +12 for the factory fit radio so I would expect there to be one in a TD5, just a matter of finding it.
 
Looks like Purple/Brown is what you are looking for. Probably also feeds the clock

Thanks, I went out to take a look and dismantled the thing. Pioneer has apparently connected their adapter red to yellow and yellow to red, They are abico connected midway, some colorblind installer they have there :D swapped them in the adapter and now it seems to work. weird thing. Thanks for the reply. I would not have noticed that if I wouldnät have gone out to trace the orange and the red.
 
No it’s just Land Rover there switched and perment live have been crossed on ever single radio I’ve fitted into one.
 
I've had that happen with several other makes as well, must be fairly common as stereo manufacturers put the bullet connectors in.
 
Little bit off topic but how is the radio in general. I am looking to repalce mine with oe that has blue tooth as apple in their wisdom have removed the jack socket and mine current radio only has an aux input. I was looking at some different ones this morning and the pioneer with blue tooth looked to be the best option.
 
Ok, so what I got was a Pioneer MVH-S300BT radio. It's a shortbody version which puts less stress on the frame. No CD, only blutooth, aux, ipod, USB. and hands free for you phone including mic to attach to dash. Today I replaced the speakers with 4" Audison APX-4 coaxial speakers. I'd say this is pretty much as good as the sound can get under 200euros (radio and speakers combined) without expanding the speaker configuration and adding seperate amp etc. It sounds real good when you tweak the EQ to highpass at 80Hz. The radio unit is straight forward swap, just make sure to check that the adapter that comes in the package has the yellow and red wires right before you plug it in. The speakers you need to cut 1mm off the tabs at the edge so it will nicely fit the original landy speaker grills. I also had to move a little some electrical unit on driver side A/C, but that was just a connector I took off it's clip and stashed it aside. This is because Audison has a pretty heavy magnet. But it's one of the few coaxial speakers that has a lowprofile treble speaker in the mid that will fit under the original grille. All and all super pleased with the complete upgrade.

thank you, that is the one I was looking at. I already have speakers having upgraded them in the past an mounted them in t he head lining. It is the actual head unit I am more interested in. How odes the mic work, I am assuming it is on a short cable run. Do you think it will be bale to stand up to the noise of a 200tdi and still pick up a conversation?
Short body, is that as simple as it sounds, due to the lack of a CD player it is not very deep?
 
The mic works somehow at least. had a long phone conversation today while driving, the speakers gives a good voice and I assume the mic is working good enough to keep the other end happy :D I have a td5 HCPU and since ive been riding a stripped down series 3 109 as a daily rider for 20 years I concider this one quiet as it can be and happy to listen to music while I ride.... finally :D. There is a fairly long wire to the mic connecting it at the back of the unit. I managed to route thru the crack left of the left air flap handle and then attached it next to the dash. But the cable is probably a few meters long at least. The short unit means exactly that, 1/3 or 1/2 of the length of a nomal unit. It has also RCA connectors if you want to expand your speaker setup.
