How much oil to use in a rear diff ??

Oh right, try and fill it with with 1.7lt then. It does seem to protrude more than standard pans, I've not seen a HD pan fitted before...

Yeah it's a specialist HD pan, there's a link on here somewhere.

Very nice pan actually, shame he buggered it up.

I would be more worried about the mess you've got welded to your axle than how much oil your gonna put in it, so I'm gonna recommend rewelding it properly as a priority.

And then at least the oil will be right, the crown wheel will be protected, and anyone following you will have no reason to think you're a novice.

Cheers, Sam

Tried one of them syringe things before and wasn't really impressed with it... had to keep gettin' out from under the bus tae fill it whendoin' gearbox. So ah got one o' these instead...

Just need to fill it, pump it up, lock the trigger and sit back while it fills the gearbox;):D

sorry of my ignorance guys but i can't see how using a pump helps me the problem i have is not being able to get enough oil in the diff not how to get it in

Oh, and rather tryin' tae fill it through the breather pipe (as somebody mentioned), ye could undo the braether banjo bolt and try fillin' it through that instead.
Maybe summit like the pumps would fit in the hole;)

Just changed my axle oil. Measured oil came out: front - 3 litre, rear 2.5litre.

Refilled through filler hole (mid way on diff pan) till it's about to spill. 2.5litre each.

Question: would the extra oil caused trouble? eg. too much pressure build up?

Breather has also been blown through and cleared.

The extra in the front might've come from yer swivels kingy... or ye might've taken in some water.
If yer breather pipe was blocked then ye might've damaged yer seals with the pressure build up.
;)

Rember the one in the stub axle and the one in the swivel ball where it bolts to the axle;)

yup...have got all the gaskets, seals CV's.....all ready to go in....just not have time....!!!!

Besides, CV only making noise when on full lock, while off road...so, should still last for a while....!!
