Have a 110 with 3 seats infront, three in middle and 2 bench seats in back - each with 3 seatbelts each side- total of 12 seats with 12 seatbelts.

used to use all the seats a lot of the time ( big family + kids friends=12) but as theyve got bigger its a bit of a tight fit in front and 6 in the back.

so.... thinking of taking out middle front seat and replacing it with cubby and if i remove two seatbelts from back does that then officially change the no of seats you have to declare to insurance ? - 9 instead of 12 and does it make any difference insurance wise ?

It can often make your landy more insureable. A lot of insurance companies won't insure a vehicle with more than 8 seats. I can't remember if it's 8 in total or 8 passenger seats. when I had 12 seats in a csw I found the price didin't really change much but there were very few companies that would insure me.

Its usualy 7 passenger seats + driver.

Anything over 7passenger seats is classed as D1 (minibus) and hence any driver must have a D1 on there license - Thats anybody who passed test before July 1997 (Check exact date with DVLA), or anybody who has taken a D1 test which lets you drive upto 16passenger seats+driver

ripped out extra's on mine, unless it states seats on v5 or in policy doc-keep your gob shut

Thats not right, I called the DVLA when I had bench seats (11 seats in total) to double check and they told me it was still lgv/normal license categorised, something to do with the benches being sideways facing.

Interesting? - I would have thought if it says 11 seats on the V5 then it means 11 seats?

I was informed by LR dealers this is why the new 07 defender only has 7 passenger seats? when there would have been room for more than 2 forward facing seats in the back?

The problem with this is if you have an accident or are pulled over by the police - the point of having insurance in the first place. If you have an accident and your insurance isn't in order then your insurance company may dispute the claim (happening more regularly in these financially hard times) or if you are pulled over by the police for whatever reason and they find that your insurance isn't valid for the vehicle than the likely outcome, in the home counties at least would be a fixed penalty notice (£200 fine & 6 penalty points) and forfeiture of your vehicle - which you would only get back when you provided evidence of correct insurance and paid the recovery companies charges.
