Hi All,

Hopefully this isn't a 'how long is a piece of string' type of question.

Considering getting a '72 Series II 88 from my cousin. He did a fair bit of work on it a few years ago, but then rather gave up and it's sat in his garden for the last 3 years.

Needs some TLC as it's a bit tatty, but to get it running again it needs a replacement engine/gearbox and wiring loom (the current loom has been cut about quite a lot by a previous owner).

Before I consider whether to take it on, any views as to how long it would take to put in engine/box and wire in a loom? I'm pretty technically capable, and if it's half a day to a weekend's work then that might be do-able. If it's much more then it'd be another matter (got a house to do too, and a mini.... :)).

Also, I presume i could retrofit a 200 tdi engine in?

All your thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
Adam.

If you're fairly capable with a spanner and have a friend to come and give you a hand, assuming you don't take the old engine out then notice that half the chassis is hanging off, I would allow 1 weekend to swap and 1 weekend to wire up, sort out bits of plumbing, etc.

You are not far wrong there Bump, but I would add a weekend or two to source all the bits n bobs/ make up the exhaust etc.
