@ratty, let's take my situation...98 Landy 300 with immobilizer, doors locked, wheel locked and clutch claw...how long would it take you to nick it? Just so I know how much time I have when I hear the first suspicious noise
Oh yes and my Landy is behind a wooden gate and on a gravel drive way...we also have a dog but he would lick your face off rather than go into attack mode...
What do you mean by wheel locked?
Bearing mind I'm not a car thief but know their tricks the following is what I could do it in.
assuming it's being driven away........
3 mins to silence alarm + stop hazard flashers
30 seconds to unlock the doors
30 secs -2mins to bypass immobiliser
30 secs - 1 min to disable standard steering lock
Clutch claw is a bitch and would make to much noise. I'd abort the idea of driving it and tow it instead.
Towing it away.
3 mins to silence alarm + stop hazard flashers
30 secs to unlock door
30 secs - 1 min to disable standard steering lock
Tow with clutch claw in place
5 mins total. If it was a knowledgeable thief doing it you wouldn't hear anything until the steering lock gets disabled. You then have 30 seconds max before it's gone.
By adding a disclock and parking with the steering on full lock it prevents it being driven AND towed away. That just leaves recovery truck or hiab. With the steering on full lock it will take a long time 10-15 mins to load plus make lots of noise. If using a hiab wih the steering on full lock the front wings will get crushed therefore making the vehicle less appealing.
