looking at buying an old series 3 with the 2.25 diesel fitted and found one locally quite cheap its a 1982.
problem is it apparently doesnt run because jump leads were connected the wrong way round and now nothing works.
i was thinking of taking a battery with me and starting it by sticking a jump lead from the battery straight to the back of the starter, in order for this to work though i need to know how they stop. is it electric from the ignition or a decrompression lever like my tractor?
will this work?
i only want to confirm that the seller is being honest and i am not buying something with a knackered engine and a convenient electrical problem.
what do you all think?

You can jump start as you say , the fuel inj pump has a stop lever simples :)

you can also stick it in 4th with foot on brakes and stall it to stop !!

tacr2man cool, cheers, i found the lever and had a good look at the wiring. offered £500 got beat up to £550. i pulled the new battery from the car put it on and jumped it to the back of the starter, it chugged, coughed, spluttered, popped and then burst into life. i handed over the money and popped my land rover cherry.

Happy days :D

Hope you checked the chassis over well for any rust, holes, etc.

£550 for a technically none-running series is a fair bit to pay, but, if the rest is in good condition then it will be worth it.
