Freelander 1 How do you split the props from VCU

been trying for the last hour to remove the VCU from the props, is there a trick to removing these? watched the vid on here somewhere where you use a cold chisel and a hammer - but still no movement. I even marked it up with tipex so I could detect movement and there has been none! nah.

Any tips? bigger hammer? Heat? Stop being a wuss, man up and hit it harder?
 
Having done several the secret is to loosen the bolt through the uj. Remove horseshoe clip. Adjust bolt so that chisel goes through and makes contact with bolt head and BOTH sections of uj. Spend some time adjusting bolt and finding correct size chisel to do this. Then, with uj supported on block of wood, hit chisel with lump hammer. Adjust bolt to keep chisel tight and re belt it!!! They will go. Bolt can stay in as head fits through hole in uj. Good luck.

Done, I gave my neighbour a shout. He is twice the size of me and it came straight off for him haha. Just need to replace the ujs now and fit the new vcu.
 
urs if you cant put heat on it. Then you will need to smack the sh*t out of it with the cold chisel for as long as it take to move it.
 
FFS, the bloody circlips for the UJS are all seized in place. Any recommendations on penetrating oil? I was wondering about just sticking them in the press to see if it frees them, but have to say its looking like it could be heat thats needed.

Tap the cap in a fraction, for each clip you want to remove, as they'll be pinched in place. The circlips won't move beforehand, because the cap has been seated against the circlip in assembly, which is the correct way to fit them. ;)
 
Cheers bud, will give it a go after work tomorrow - bairn is away at his granddads now so I have cracked open the beers :)
 
They can be a pig to get off. I bent a cold chisel to the same shape as the one in the video getting them apart and bent the bolt head as well. Hate to think of the stress getting put through everything to bend a chisel like that but it's all back together and seems none the worse for the treatment (famous last words!).
