stop my doors being stolen?

It's happened not too far from here, and will probably write off a 110.
I already hammered ball bearings into the hinge bolts, so they are not coming off.

Now l am told the scumbags can just tap out the hinge pins?? How can l prevent this? It seems a never ending story.

At the bottom of each hinge below the pin is a hole and l thought a ball bearing in there would stop the pins being tapped out from below.

Would this work? 5mm ball bearings (as used in the bolt heads) are fractionally too big so l ordered some 4.5mm ones. Anybody got any other ideas. Can the hinge pins be easily removed on a TD5 to get the doors off? The hinges look different to older models.

Getting a bit fed up with worrying about this stuff :-(

I feel your pain man. If youre that worried then best bet is dig deep n drop the notes for billet hinges, combined with hinge plates (stop the doors being pulled off even if you get the bolts out).

Cheap way, i suppose you could drop a spot weld on it prevent tapping the pin out.

Trouble is, with ball bearings hammered into the bolts, the hinges are not coming off.
Surely the hinge plates are defeated by opening the door?

These look to be a good idea, anything to reduce the chances of your doors being stolen.

Yeah i think it's possible the simplest way to stop thieves getting in as easy as they can, it's not rocket science to break in unfortunately but least this will stop them in there tracks.

Sorry to P*** on anyone's dream but that idea only works if they can't open the door. One the door is open the plate will do nothing !
We all know how robust door locks are so the bombproof idea is not fool proof

fit a high tensile bolt in place of the door stay pin,,, not expected...! and reduces door opening to access lock button ,,,,,,

If they want to steal it they will eventually but I guess it's handy to have to increase time to remove therefore more chance of getting caught. A simple solution.

Land Rover Defender Front Door Hinge Security Guard 2 Door Set - DA1398

Oooh, I must get some of these on mine, ...................why not just fill the holes with as the OP did a BB or use the torx cutoff you can buy to fill the hole, or even use chemical metal all would be a darn sight cheaper.

Cheers

These do seem expensive for what they are, I am tempted to get my own cut. I wonder if anyone is interested in them if I got a load cut.

Or a Jeep Wrangler.

Neither are a Defender though.

Disco will do everything that a defender will in the comfort and dry, high spec one will have everything you could ever need.
Seriously have a look around one and maybe a test drive, they are nice cars all the same running gear as defender.

Jeeps arent even in the same class.

I was worried about my 90 being stolen when I first got it, now 7 yrs later would look at is as a brucey bonus as would save me the hassle of selling it one day maybe possibly!
