Hi ming,

I fully agree with you, enjoying the cooler nights and specially the cooler days. Here we had a little rain (some 107 drops per square meter, counted them;) ) at noon today, now it's covered with a mild refreshing breeze, all windows and doors wide open and cool air coming through the house. Looking forward for next week when real Belgian summer weather is announced meaning rain with some clear periods in-between....:D :D

Hi yella,

Was the reason why several British (and others) soldiers stayed here at the end of the war this kind of welcome boards or was it for the weather ?? (or maybe for the girls they liked??:D )

Perhaps It Was The Choccies ;)

No, because at these days there was no Belgian chocolates yet, all the chocolat you could find was in the soldier's pockets.
"Cigarette for papa"
"Chocolate for mama"
was the rhym you could hear all day long.....
And those Tommies sitting on the side of their brencarriers with a big smile, happy (I think) they could throw something to us.
I remember one day one of us kids got a beating from the Tommies though, a certain day the market place was filled one side with parked mobile guns, all with their barrels pointed upwards, and the pulling trucks on the other side of the place. One of us kids climbed on the barrel of such an upwards pointing gun, they took him off and he got beaten up rather well, it was dangerous of course but did we know. Another thing I was greatly impressed with was the show they sometimes gave with their brencarriers, they came full speed down the street, all cobblestones it was, and at a certain point they did a full turn 'sur place' and stood still.
