Hi All, and happy New Year.

After my summer experiment with a bikini top I’m going all out for a full canvas. Got the hood at Christmas from Exmoor, now sourcing parts for the frame.

Basically, price difference between Exmoor and Britpart items amounts to £30. Britparts are available almost immediately, Exmoor stuff seems made to order, so 6-8 weeks.

I’m ok to wait if needed for the Exmoor bits, but wondering if there are views here about relative quality of the two suppliers? Input and advice much appreciate.

Cheers

I don’t know but the metal hoops are pretty simple, I don’t see how britpart can mess that up lol.

I have a full soft top and am happy to take photos of any bits should you need

Sorry to butt in but if I want to take the truck cab off my ex mil 109 are there any extra bits I will need to make it a full canvas soft top?
Are there any bits above the doors, windscreen etc.
I am toying with the idea but don't want to have to pay a fortune for hard to find pieces.

Yes. You need front and rear hoops, side rails, over door channels, screen rail, corner braces, rope ties. Etc.
All the parts are available from Rimmer, Craddock etc, either as kits or separate parts. By the time you’ve bought a canvas and metalwork you are looking at ~£700-800. Canvas can be got used, but the metal framework doesn’t come up often and when it does isn’t cheap enough compared to new to make it really worth the while.

I have got the hoops its the other bits and pieces I don't really know about.
Just wanted rid of the truck cab so I don't get ruptured eardrums every time I get in it.......

Britpart are a supplier rather than a manufacture, Exmoor Trim sew stuff, I doubt very much they bend metal.

My suspicion is they both get there hood sticks from the same place, they may or may not have there own specification or quality assurance standards, unlikely.

Thanks. This is interesting, and makes sense, given Exmoor’s core products. What’s curious is that the Britpart items I need are about 48hr lead time, Exmoor stuff is all 6-8 weeks because it’s “made to order”
Perhaps Exmoor are using a small local supplier for the metalwork, so they can supply complete hood+stick sets.

If that’s the case then quality could be better - or worse. At the very least, the economies of scale that Britpart enjoy wouldn’t be available. Therefore the price difference might be more to do with scale rather than quality.

It’s easy! The you tube vid is ideal, just follow it......I’ve had mine a year now and it’s been through 120 dig heat in Spain and now freezing cold and ****ing rain in Scotland and it’s been fine. Incidentally, the camo pattern is much cheaper than the plain ones....

Great stuff! Did you drive to Spain? How was that?!

Apart from the middle loop all my hood stick parts are genuine Land Rover parts, the middle loop is from Britpart, fitted fine and cant say I noticed any quality difference.

At the end of the day all parts are made to order, just depends who puts the order in.

For Americans looking for hood stick sets, visit www.pangolin4x4.com as they have original NOS Land Rover complete hood stick kits for sale. The price is basically the same as Britpart or Exmoor but the patina and quality are better. They have these for both 88" and 109" vehicles. https://pangolin4x4.com/item/31
I bought a set for my 88" and got the hood from Exmoor. It's been a great addition to my vehicle and makes driving the Land Rover more pleasant as it provides some shade from the hot, Nashville sun.
