Hood Sticks/parts - Britpart or Exmoor?

...true, although I did drive from Scotland to Spain in a 110 and also from Pamplona to Cadiz in a ser 3...
Impressive.
Genuine question- what’s it like doing really long distance in S3? Obviously noisy and slow. But engine/ gearbox / cooling / oil all did ok with prolonged running and higher speeds?

When I got my LWB S2a it had some history with it. At some stage it had been used to drive to Turkey and back importing perdigree dogs (?). When I was looking to buy it I viewed a S2a Safari, the guy had had it for years and it was quite rough, he had fond memories of driving it 6 up to the South of France for a lads holiday, it was a 2 1/4 diesel and he said it was 45 all the way there and back. The most I've done in a day is 200 miles and I think that's far enough as I'm driving for pleasure. The temperatures all stabilise after a while, the engine seems fine but I have noticed the diffs and gearbox get quite hot on a long run.

Yes, that’s been my experience with longer or higher speed runs - engine temps stay very stable, but transmission does get warm. I’ve read somewhere that the cooling systems are very good because the engine had to cope with periods of running while stationary, in order to drive the power take off.

I’ve now ordered the bits for my hood sticks from John Craddock - thanks for the comments and help. I had screen rail and front hoop already from my bikini experiment, so didn’t need a full set. Total was 265 with free postage, so that’s not too bad really. I’m excited! I’ve wanted to try the full soft top for a long time.

I’ll post some pics once I get all the bits and put together.

Anyone want a hard top...?!!

. I did nt have a problem at all, went a steady 50, plenty of stops for coffee etc, Landy just cruises along! ...same com8mg from the UK then driving down to the south of Spain in an old 110...steady and plenty of stops, no probs at all

Had to order bolts n nuts for the tilt and Exmoor took the money but didn't have the parts in stock. No explanation until I chased them up. When the parts arrived all was there plus a whole load of other bolts I didn't need and still don't know what they're for. All fitted okay.

Quick update for completeness: I ordered all the bits I needed from John Craddock. Took a while to deliver due to some stuff on back order. Essentially I got a full hood stick set minus the screen rail and front hoop as I already had these. Free delivery though.

I had expected all Britpart stuff. Interestingly what arrived was 90% Exmoor Trim ( the main hoop, middle hoop, side rails and over door drain channels). A couple of minor bits were OEM Land Rover, and the odds and ends like staples were Britpart.

Quality is fine - it all fits as it’s supposed to and galvanizing is good.

A tip perhaps - I bought a variety of stainless M6 bolts and nyloc nuts at Screwfix for £10 or so. I saved a bit this way and got bee tee quality rather than getting the £40 fitting kit (which to be fair contains rope ties and some other bits). Even so.

Fitting has gone well, and the Exmoor video previously linked up thread was helpful.
