Never go alone. I went out alone one night when we first started and ended up getting stuck for hours while we waited for spyderman to come tow us out of a lane in hertfordshire.

Always take a telephone, and some way to communicate with the guy in front is a good idea, whether that be walkie talkies or CB.

Take loads of water, and some munchies (a long wait is not nice without any grub or drink)

Walk the lane unless it is dead solid.

Make sure you ask any questions you need to... there is a load of bull floats around this forum but these folks have, in some cases, forgotten more about off roading/green laning than I'm ever likely to know.

Take a good sense of humour... its really useful when you're stuck for 29 hours...( there's a story there too!)
 
Wow! stuck for 29 hours is that a record? see what you mean though not good to be stuck for any amount of time, and a doubt the RAC AA will recover me for anywhere off a tarmac road?

I have no idea whether it is a record but its the worst I have had to endure (with wife,teenager,2x8year old,6 year old and baby!)

RAC/AA.... no bleedin chance. The final thing that is useful is to take sufficient cash to bribe he local farmer into giving you a tow out of the lane. Usual tip around £50.00 in these parts.

However...

If ther lane is so bad you get that stuck... you probably shouldn't be driving it anyway according to Glass Guidelines.

Problem being you might not know how bad it is till you gat stuck right? specially not if like me you happen to be a newbie:mad:

That's why you're supposed to walk it first. As you drive the lane though, take a note of any possible places to turn around. When the terrain changes get out and walk it, you can assess how bad the conditions are before you drive the next section. If it is really bad then avoid it, retreat to the last turn point and go back to the beginning of the lane. That's the official advice of Glass anyway. Remember that your mate on front or behind you will be no use whatever if he gets stuck too!!

YOu are always welcome to join us over here in Herts. We're out most nights n weekends. We have a weekend in Salisbury in Sept which you are also welcome to join us for.
 
should be takin the missus to the lake district camping first week of september mates wedding the next week when you gonna be out n about? I'd love to come along

Of course then you get a mate like spyderman who takes a perfectly good classic series... and morphs it into a super laning/offroad monster! now we're all looking forward to seeing how that performs!

We're out 4 nights a week and usually one weekend day. What are you doing this weekend?
