That's was my first thought but something is telling me to few hopefully it will be better than pics I don't think it's worth 1100

It has 300 tdi headlights. off the top of my head I cannot remember exactly when it changed form 200 to 300 tdi.

If it is close and you have time , go and have a look, I would also be careful about checking all the numbers match the paperwork. Chassis, VIN plate, Engine.

Maybe the pictures do not do it justice. I would prefer to get a clean road based car and then mod it as i felt it needed.

Cheers

When buying a landrover, I look for the one that was owned by a nice old couple who used it occasionally to tow their caravan, and spent their weekends polishing the landy! :)

Anything that looks like the "orf road" brigade have been near it is highly likely to prove to be trouble! ;)

Oh, and make sure you check inside the rear doorways, look at the rear wheelarches, known rust spot. As well as the boot floor and numerous other places.

Cheers

Yes, rust loves Discos! :(

And isn't always as easy to see as on a Defender, can be hidden by carpets, trims etc.

Think the rustiness of an old BL car, like a Marina or a Maxi, that is the sort of corrosion resistance you get with a D1.

Holy crap they do like the rust thanks for that just for curiosity what landy will I get for about 1600 I'm trading my very rare 1.8 Sri zafira for one lol

You could get a 300tdi Disco that should be clean. But would require checking over carefully.

A 90 or 110 is more than likely out of your price range, unless you are lucky, especially if you want one with all those seats.

Main thing is that it is likely to take a lot of time and you are going to have to look at a lot of them.

Cheers

You'd get a 03 or 04 Freelander for that. If you've never driven a Disco before then think what a barge would handle like and your not far off. Oh and the turning circle of your average barge is way tighter than a Disco. :p

Hi Wenty321,
Its been a while since I had a 200tdi - nearly 10 years. The one I bought was a bit of a lemon and I soon upgraded to a 300tdi.

The 200 had all the usual landrover faults. A rusty boot floor, rusty rear end of chassis, rusty sills, the lot. It was a brilliant off-roader but on-road it was somewhat lacking in on road abilities.

I'd be very aware buying one now that its a 20+ year old car and likely to have all sorts of issues. On the plus side its probably the cheapest way to buy a landrover. If you've got the knowhow to deal with the problems as they occur then go for it. If however you're going to be relying on taking it to the garage when things go wrong, i'd steer clear.

Looking at the car in the photos - are you sure thats a 200tdi? Its got the 300tdi facelift lights on the front...

+1 - this is the way to go

And, IME, checker plate round the bottom means that this has rotted out - and doesn't bode well for the structure of the vehicle behind said panels....

Indeed. Checker plate is a really bad sign - if you see it on the bottom of doors etc run. Run fast. and Run Far.

I deliberately bought a disco that didnt have a towbar fitted. Yes its going to be an extra job to fit one, but it shows its never been used for towing. One owner from new who has only used low range in the snow. Although i must admit i'm envious of the 18 month old D4 he's replaced it with.
