I would think you would need to get permission or at least notify the local council authority. Tell them that they are failing in their bid to keep and maintain this particular unserfaced byway, lay it on a bit and say we are more than happy to do the work in a structured clearance day. If they will let us, the council may have to send out a man to check and we wil have to submit helth and saftey reports, method, what we intend to, how we go about it in a of this I'm sure I can sort out given a bit of time.

There is a short lane in Sundon Park which was re classified as a byway from a footpath after it was found to have ancient rights. However when I rang the council to say I couldn't drive down it because of bollards and it being too narrow, their response was well not really what I wanted to hear! They said that they have no intention of making it driveable due to the ammount of stolen cars that could get through it onto the farmers land opposite, (The farmers field has access from the road anyway furthur up) also that they have had no complaints in the last however many years so it will remain undriveable although open to motorvehicles. The first thing he asked me was if i was plannng to walk it when i said drive, he seemed very arsey. I think it may be worth going for this aswell it's local, its not very scenic but it has a patch of land for picnics/kids, its just about a safe distance from the motorway.

Ryder if you wanna see it give me a buzz I can take you there one evening/after work Jai

I would like to propose a new use for Land Rovers. Motorized Fox Hunting. I thought that if we started a high profile hobby like this, the anti fox hunting lobby and the anti 4 x 4 crowd could get together and fight between themselves thus leaving the rest of us to our peaceful pursuits.

Any thoughts?

Hey Urban... my timekeeping is perfect but it relies on my 14 year old serving my bacon sarnie and tea in bed before I get up. If the tea's lkate the whole day's disupted.

Children... exploitation begins at home.

Rather eat dead dogs vomit than associate with the unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable

all the best urban dekay

Oh come on... we dopn't have to do it, we just have to be seen to be doing it. Publicise the event in the local paper, publish photos (fabricated of course). Once the hobby becomes controversial enough, no one will be concerned about our little shindigs.

Hey mikey, I got a gig tomorrow night so we won't be late. I don't s'pose we'll be wandering more than about 1/2 hour's drive from Luton in any case. Where are you based?

Hey Ryder,

If your only half an hour from Luton then I think your safe this week, there isn't much water aroud these here parts! might be home on time! lol Jai

Well that was fun! A little bit of everything methinks. Including some of the wet stuff. AND guess what I wasn't the only newbie there! Jeez on a couple of occasions I almost sounded like I knew what I was talking about! I'll write it up tomorrow and upload the photos to the blog.
