We are away on holiday in the caravan with the grand kids at moment and have a bit of a problem

Went to local shop yesterday and when I got back I noticed a lot of smoke from exhaust on tick over. Would this be a sensor or something more serious ???

The car is a 2006 TD4 with 62000 on clock. Be grateful for any suggestions.

Cheers

what colour be said smoke ?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
a split in a turbo hose be unlikely to cause smoke at idle rpm ..
i would think .. that would show up as black smoke when you accelerate ..
Hi hd3,
Twas white, but think it may have been condensation now. Just took it for a bit of a drive, when I left campsite white smoke followed me up the road then it just cleared. Gave it a bit of a boot up hill, no power loss and running fine.
I think it was because I was using it for short runs on site as I'm disabled and can't walk to far so it's possible that it could have built up a bit of water in the exhaust. Just a bit of a panic as I have to tow the caravan back on Saturday.
Thanks all for the replies
given the weather .. i was wondering about condensation being the cause :)
i've only seen smoke from mine on two occasions ..
one was on a cold misty-rain day on the moors ..
had stopped for coffee .. engine idling for about 15 minutes ..
then when i took off ( up hill ) there was a plume of white smoke at gear changes
only noticed it due to the wind direction .. .. the white smoke soon stopped ..
the other time was when i had my foot in it .. 4th gear high rpm .. ( synergy on 'max' )
and 'cause the sun was behind me .. and there were some ground mist ..
i could see a haze of grey smoke from the exhaust
( did not alarm me as when driving pre-emission h.g.v. diesels ..
( a 'grey-haze' on cruise was normal ..
( as were a plume of black smoke when up-changing gears .. :)
Yeh we're on a campsite in the middle of the Forest of Dean, so with the weather it is pretty damp here at moment. Fingers crossed that's all it was, made me panic a bit thou lol.
if it is now running ok I would not worry it is more than likely to be condensation as you are in a forest and it has been raining and it has been cold . sun is on it way tomorrow and getting warmer also
